  3. Facebook are not known for respecting out privacy. If your concerned about privacy you should probably stip out exif data *before* you upload pics to facebook and not trust them to do the right thing.

Apple has Education pricing for anyone in college or university. If you go to the online apple store, down the left hand side there is a link for education store. Most things are $50 or $100 less, ipods don't seem to ever have an education discount, I'm not sure about iPads. Here's the great thing. The Future shop is now matching the education price! I bought a mac book air at the future shop and got the Education price, and they didn't ask to see id. You just have to mention it, and they will offer to match it. So before you buy check the price at the education store to see it it's any better.
  5. He's paying you for YOUR time not HIS time. On top of that even a newbie like myself knows that outcall is normally more than incall. If I was going to make any assumption it would be to pay more not less.
  6. I work in the IT industry, I have lots of computers and I've been using macs for a long time now. I have several mac book pros both 15" and 13", a 27" iMac, iPad, and an 11" mac book air. I would go for the 11" mac book air hands down no question. I can't say enough about how much I like mine. I hardly ever use my mac book pro or my iPad any more. The air is almost as light as my iPad, and because of the SSD it's faster than my MBP at most things and it rarely gets hot like my mac book pro, does. There is no cd/dvd player, but when was the last time you used one. You can buy an external cd/dvd, but if you really use it a lot maybe the MBP is a better choice. There is limited disk space, 64GB, or 128GB. I don't find that to be a problem, but I have a desktop at home that has my iTunes library on it. I listen to Rdio more than iTunes now anyway. I watch shows on netflix, or if I download them I delete them after I watch them. If you want to keep everything you download then you'll need an external drive. Good luck with your new computer, if you have any questions feel free to pm me.
  7. I just thought since were on the subject some people might like some general tips on images for the web. - use GIFs, JPEGs, and PNGs for all of your images - for pictures of people JPEgs are generally best. - convert the resolution to 72dpi, that's all that browsers can render. Any higher resolution is just a waste of bandwidth, and you can probably do a better job of converting the resolution than the browser can anyways. - change the image size to what you want it displayed as. Using html to set the image size doesn't actually change the image file size, just how it is rendered. You should create an image of the correct size rather than let the browser mangle your image. Adobe photoshop is a great tool for doing all this stuff, but it is very spendy and takes a while to learn how to use. The GIMP (http://www.gimp.org) can do everything photoshop does and it's free, it also takes a while to learn. But if images are important to you it might be worth your while to download it and learn how to use it. There are lots of tutorials on youtube.
  8. Hi There, I hope you were able to get your song. You may have had a problem because it's only available in the US iTunes store and not the Canadian store. So I thought I'd share a workaround with everyone. If you have a US credit card you can just open an account in the US store. For the rest of us, you can buy an iTunes gift card on ebay, make sure it's a US card and that it's from a reputable seller. Then you can create a US store account with your US gift card. Probably too much work just for one song, but just incase anyone is curious...
  9. I love my iPhone. But, if I was buying a new phone today I'd take a good look at the The Samsung Galaxy S ll (I'd probably still end up with an iPhone but the galaxy is a really nice phone). With the iPhone everything just works, especially if you're already a mac user. The android phones may take a little more fussing to get things to work, but at least you're not locked into the apple way, you can run apps without apples approval. I think the Samsung Galaxy S ll is probably the best phone available today, but they just keep leap-frogging each other, what ever you buy there will be something better on the market a couple of weeks later. People like Blackberry for texting because of the keyboard and BBM (blackberry messenger), or because that's the phone they get for work. Sadly I think Blackberrys days are numbered, they are quickly falling behind google and apple. I would only consider a Blackberry if you really want the keyboard or access to BBM. There are rumors that apple will release a new phone in September so it might be worth waiting a couple of months if you are considering an iPhone.
  10. If you do buy a mac make sure you take advantage of the education pricing, and any other back to school deals they might have. If you are buying online go to the education store (usually a link half way down on the left hand side). If you are lucky enough to have an apple store nearby just tell them you are a student. The last time I was at future shop they were giving the education price too, just tell them you are a student. It's usually $50-$100 off the regular price, plus back to school promotion is $100 app store credit.
  11. I have not had good experiences with Dell laptops. I've had several as work computers and none have lasted even a year without needing repair. I would at least look at a macBook Air. I find macs tend to have a longer useful life than most pc laptops (in my experience), the battery life is great on them, and they are very light. The only issue might be any pc only software you might need for school?
  12. what you are trying to do is called audio ducking. If you have access to a Mac with iMovie (comes free with all Macs) it's easy to do, just google "iMovie audio ducking" and you'll find lots of tutorials. I don't know if windows movie maker does audio ducking or not but if you ask the google I'm sure you can find some windows software that does.
  13. It took me a while to find system preferences for the flash player. I use chrome and flash is built in. So just in case anyone else is still struggling with this here is what to do: - once you get the popup asking about your camera and mic right click on it. - click on "global settings..." - click on the "Camera and Mic" tab at the top - select "Block all sites from using the camera and microphone" I had to quit chrome and restart it, but now chat works fine. SAFARI USERS: If you are doing this with safari global settings takes you to an adobe web page instead of a pop-up. It looks like you've been redirected to a help page, but if you look for "Settings Manager" and then under it "Global Privacy Settings panel" it will bring up a panel that you can use to make the same change.
  14. Hi November, The main issue for Canadian customers with a US hosting company is the potential conflict between their Patriot Act and our Privacy Laws. You could find your self in a position where disclosing information breaks our laws but not disclosing information breaks their laws (which you, or at least your data are subject to by virtue of being in the US). I took a quick look at your site and it doesn't look like this would apply to you, because you don't ask or keep any information from visitors. So the only thing to worry about are IP addresses in your ISPs logs. These could potentially be used to figure out who has been visiting your site. I'm not sure that Canadian ISPs would be any better than US ISP's at protecting this info. I think our privacy laws are stronger, but US ISP's might be more willing to fight such a request, especially if it was coming from a Canadian agency. Who knows??? Either way I think you've done all you can and people should know that their IP addresses are in logs on every server they visit. If people are really worried about protecting their identity they should turn off cookies and use a proxy server to annonymize their IP address.
