OldandNerdy 1301 Report post Posted September 5, 2020 I found a couple of fun new shows after impulse It's now on Netflix as of a week ago, but I watched it a month or so ago, but for any fans of the original Karate Kid movie, check out Cobra Kai. It's essentially a continuation of the original story, 35 years later and mostly told from the point of view of "Johnny", the villain from the original movie. It sounds cheesy but the writing is spectacular. For fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I present to you " Warrior Nun". Based on a comic, it's the story of the sect of ninja nuns who protect a secret along with their leader the warrior nun, who has a special power passed down through the centuries to each new badass. It has a lot of religious overtones, but it's got a fun story. Now for all you fans of alternative history, here comes "Motherland: Fort Salem" . *puts on movie trailer guy voice* Imagine a world where the Salem witch trials ended differently, with the signing of a pact between the colonists and the witches, where the witches agreed to form an army and protect the country from all evil. Fast forward to modern day as we follow 3 new witch recruits as they choose to join up in the fight against a mysterious offshoot of witches who are out to cause havoc " It's fun, has great characters, an interesting "what if" vibe, and all kinds of fun LGBTQ+ overtones, and an entire episode devoted to an orgy caused by everyone just being way too horny. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

There are 2 seasons (10 episode each) and a third one on the way. I love the story like OldandNerdy mentioned and the music is also great in it as well. Plus I learned that there is a current band called Airbourne that is a total 80s hair rock band, but not from the 80s! They do the theme song from Cobra Kai - called "back in the game". OldandNerdy 1301 Report post Posted September 15, 2020 Just binged "Never Have I Ever" . Apparently I'm a teenager with all these shows I've been watching lately. I was impressed. It's produced and/or written by Mindy Kaling, who I think is both really talented and kinda annoying in too high of a dose, but this is yet another great show of hers. Basic premise, 3 teens are growing up in an affluent area, they are all nerds in their own right, and dealing with trying to navigate life. Throw in a sudden parental death, someone realizing they are gay, and the lonliness of being abandoned by your mother, and you got yourself a winning premise! All sarcastic wit aside, I really enjoyed it, they really spent some time developing the characters and have that right mix of comedy and gut-punch sadness. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

It's now on season 3 and it took me awhile to start to like it and I would recommend it. It stars Kevin Costner among other actors and it's about the Dutton family who owns a lot of land in Montana and they need to protect that land from the Indians and the population of Montana who want part of that land to build a city and the Indians who want to build a Casino to make money and get their land back. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Guest Report post Posted March 6, 2021 I binge watched "WandaVision" and it's actually quite good. I was a bit worried about the retro-sitcom concept and the first 3 episodes are pretty cheesy. But the real plot kicks in right after and things start to make sense. A good knowledge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe/ Avengers movies is strongly recommended for better enjoyment. waterat 20911 Report post Posted March 29, 2021 Just watched 'Lost Girls', a Netflix production which deals with dangers in the SW industry. It is based on a true story and, while it only relates to a part of the industry. it does offer a perspective on SW that is rarely presented. It's called "Girl in the basement" it's based on a true story and has a actor that I have not seen in a long time, Judd Neilson(Breakfast club).
