Anyone ever try out the peep shows at Sweet 300? I've been tempted a few times, but never have gone in.

I don't live very far from the place, but never went due to the sketchy nature of that part of town.

Those kind of places used to be popular in the 80's and 90's, but most shut down since. Even in Montreal, most are closed.

If that part of town ever goes through a major rejuvenation, the "Sweet 300" and everything attached to it, will likely disappear.

I thought it changed for a gay cinema and a little sexshop upstairs . Mostly for homosexual , but maybe it changed again ??

Not sure what’s there anymore , but it is very true , the area is rough and scetchy ..

I would not walk around there after dark ..

I would be afraid..

According to their Twitter and Facebook pages, they cater to both type of clients. The place likely survives on nostalgia for those who crave neon lights, sticky floors and the smell of loneliness. It's the kind of business that became obsolete when internet became a thing. Unless major changes are done, I don't see the place surviving many years.

Either way I'm not going there and won't recommend due to the location alone.

I thought the ladies from the Playmate were taking their customers up there for a little private time. 300 is also owned by the Playmate owner.

Yes. The Sweet 300 is now a place where you can rent private rooms (basically larger champagne rooms with locking doors) where you can either watch porn movies on a large screen tv, or spend time with someone else, doing whatever all parties agree to. I'm sure some gents visit alone, but I personally always go accompanied. Most ladies from the Playmate will visit it occasionally with customers they met downstairs. If you're at Playmate downstairs and are interested, just ask them when you meet them if they would visit the place upstairs with you. Since it's a separate establishment where you rent a room (25$/30 min), it operates more like a hotel and is not subjected to the same rules as the cr area of a strip club.

Honestly, it's not nearly as bad as some of the posts here make it sound (I suspect most of those come from people who haven't actually visited the place recently). It's been renovated some years ago and it looks nice. Also, the employee always cleans and disinfect each room between every rental. It's also bigger than a champagne room, and each room has a paper towel distributor, a garbage can (also emptied between uses) a lamp you can turn on or off, a leather couch and a large screen TV with a remote. I've never detected any bad smell (of loneliness or anything else). The only thing that might be improved is the air conditioning in the private rooms. It can get a little hot in there during the warmest summer days.

On site, there's also an adult movie theatre, a small sex shop and the employees are always helpful and non-judgmental. They also have a few larger rooms you can rent for a higher fee. A while ago they used to advertise live erotic shows with m-f couples performing in front of an audience (probably in the theatre rooms). I've never been and I don't think they do that anymore. Note that there are also a massage parlour and some sort of bdsm club next door on the same floor, but those are all independently runned establishments.

Rocky, since you laid it out in detail, let me ask the million dollar question.

Are most or all of the ladies working the Playmate are on board for the Sweet?  Or is it entirely YMMV?

The interior is maybe cleaner, but the neighborhood isn't.

If the location was Centretown or anywhere else, it would be an easier sell. But considering the bad history of that part of town, I couldn't in good conscience recommend it.

It's always ymmv. All the time, with anyone, anywhere and everywhere in this industry. That's true for strippers, masseuses, escorts, etc. In this particular case, from my (very personal) experience, the majority of girls (I would say more than 70%) are fine with it, at least with some customers. Even those who don't use the premises upstairs, are aware of it and don't get offended if you ask politely about it.

I can't argue with that. It's still Vanier, not one of the best parts of Ottawa. Sometimes in the evening, you'll have a homeless person asking you for a smoke or for a dollar outside. But it's not the Bronx or the favelas of Rio either. Maybe I'm too oblivious, but I've never really felt unsafe around Playmate/Sweet 300. But if the quality of the neighbourhood is important to you, I don't recommend Vanier.

If it makes it any better, call it Lower Rockcliffe.

I've never found it dangerous either, it's just a few steps from a brightly-lit main street. Vanier has changed a lot.

IMO, it depends on your schedule.  I'm mainly a daytime/late afternoon SC guy (on my way home from work) so I've never really felt unsafe going to PM.  Now, is it a place I would want to close out the night at on any given day of the week?  Nope.  But then again, at my age, I'm not closing out any bars anymore, Vanier or otherwise lol.   That being said, it's up to everyone to decide their own comfort levels.

While I have not been to the 'Mate evenings/latenight for several (8 or 9) years, there was a time when I often stayed until closing (usually on Friday or Saturday nights, but other days as well) and I never had any trouble in the locale. There were a few nights when I would even wait for the last No. 2 bus (before this became the 12) but on these occasions, it would be an hour or so before closing. When leaving at 2:00, I rarely encountered anyone at all on the surrounding streets. Seem to recall seeing patrol cars in the area quite often at these times, mostly cruising down Montreal Rd. and looking north.

All this is not to say that the neighbourhood is altogether genteel and I suppose if one had to walk Montreal Rd. from St. Laurent to the river every night (morning) between 2:00 and 3:00 for, say, a year there might be some cause for concern as the odds of an 'incident' would build up. Then again, on "brightly-lit" Montreal Rd. perhaps one might not be at that much risk.

Suspect that one might have more concern about raccoon attacks at the Rideau St. macadonarudo.

I appreciate all this info. I visit Ottawa once a year and usually go to the 'Mate at least once. I haven't been asked about upstairs, though have been offered something in the CR. There are times when I'd love that option so I'll remember to ask when I'm there in the spring.
