Happy World Oceans Day

Happy World Oceans Day. 🐟 This day is every year on the 8th June and was declared by the United Nations following the urging of our wonderful country - Canada!

"There will be more plastic than fish in our oceans by 2050 if we continue on the path we are on" - World Economic Forum

I thought I'd take this as an opportunity to ask you guys how you try to live more sustainably, so that our oceans stay beautiful for future generations? ♻️

Here are some ideas I've come across:

  • Avoid single use plastic by purchasing reusable items (beeswax wraps instead of clingfilm, menstrual cups instead of tampons, reusable water bottles over single use ones)
  • Beach cleans
  • Choosing a plant based diet or trying to decrease meat/seafood consumption
  • Prioritising walking/public transport over driving
  • Raising awareness by joining in discussions

So tell me, what things do you do to try to live a more environmentally friendly life?

NOTE: This thread is not intended for judgement or virtue signalling of any kind. Not everyone will want to or be able to follow the suggestions mentioned, but it's always good to open up the discussion on these topics and give each other some inspiration! ☺️

Has anyone ever had the privilege to scuba dive in these amazing oceans? It is too mind blowing not to appreciate it!

Not yet, but I'd love to! Where have you had the privilege? 🙂

I have only gone in tropical areas, Costa Rica, Mexico, Dominican and Cuba. I'm not brave enough for attempting the cold waters we have here lol someday the Northumberland straight if warm enough!

Yes the fish, corals and scenery were spectacular. We got on our dive boat in Fort Lauderdale and all six of us got violently sea sick on the crossing to the Bahamas - only rough part of the trip. We were there for 8 days and toured aroundto numerous islands. We went to the casino one evening in Freeport with the agreement we would each spent $20 and gamble until everyone had lost their money. Of course I won $150 on my first pull at the slot machine. It only took about 3 hours for all of us to lose our $20 stakes and all winning, lol.
