When using the search tool you can sort results by relevancy or date. Looking at old posts, we do find answers.

From what @mod explained in this Nov 2006 post:

   something else - Lyla

The current version of LYLA is pretty much a merger of 3 older escort discussion websites: escorts-canada.com, lyla.com and the old CERB (unrelated to Canada Emergency Response Benefit).

From what I understand, the Lyla name remained for being different from other ERB(escort review boards) websites and offer a more discreet and positive place to advertise and discuss industry related topics and others. There was a recent attempt to drop the LYLA name for something more "on the nose". But after discussion, the name was kept.

I'm sure there a bit more to the story, but this summarizes it a bit.

Thanks,   so  basically Lyla comes from an older Lyla site..... so the question remains: why was the older site called Lyla? Lol

From what @mod described, the original Lyla website was likely created over two decade ago. As this was way before the C-36 era and ladies could be charged and prosecuted for selling their own services, the Lyla name was likely chosen to avoid negative attention. But I'm just speculating on that one.

This forum was called CERB before the change to Lyla in 2015. There maybe an historical significance to the name. But was likely random, like most names tend to be.

Maybe an older mod/admin knows more about it.

I think the original incarnation of what eventually became this forum was something called "Lyla's list" or something like that which was set up by JoyfulC - way before my time, though. That evolved into CERB, but the lyla.com URL remained as a redirect to cerb.ca. When C36 happened the mods decided they wanted a slightly more discreet name (i.e. without 'Escort' in it) and so the Lyla name and domain was resurrected. The move to .ch was more recent but probably inevitable given US hostility to sex work.

So that's a bit more history, but it still doesn't actually answer the question :)

From the Horse's mouth (so to speak):

Why Lyla? Well, when I was setting up Lyla's List, I needed a name for it. I was sitting around one night with a bunch of other jumpers, who were helping me think. (Some alcohol might have been involved.) There were some crazy suggestions, but at the end of the night, the consensus was Lyla's List.
