Posting the CERB banner on your website

Recommended Posts

cerbanimated.gif

Many people are asking how to do this or if I can help do this and the answer is most of those FREE do it yourself websites have a learning curve. If your not going to pay for a webdesigner/webmaster to build a site for you then be prepared for a learning curve. Most of these sites are different (how they allow you to post images and links) so I can not give instructions in general. Maybe people who know how to do this can post and give advise here on the specific site.

If your do it yourself site allows HTML code here is the code for the banner and link...

<a href="http://www.cerb.ca" target="_blank">
<img src="http://cerb.ca/banners/cerbanimated.gif">
</a>

EXPLANATION OF EACH ITEM ABOVE...

< a > = add a link

href = http reference (or the site you wish to link to)

< img > = IMAGE URL

< /a > = End the link statement

target="_blank" = Open link in NEW page (Replace _blank with _top and it will open in the same window)

(OR)

You can add a link without the banner like this....

www.cerb.ca

<a href="http://www.cerb.ca" target="_blank">
www.cerb.ca
</a>

Some of the DO IT YOURSELF sites have a ICON to insert banners and links if so...

THE BANNER URL = http://cerb.ca/banners/cerbanimated.gif

THE LINK URL = http://www.cerb.ca

Some sites you must first upload the image, if so RIGHT CLICK on the banner and SAVE it to your computer then UPLOAD the banner to your admin area in the correct area (Each of those sites is different so you may need to contact the tech support for that site if you can not figure this out)

Once the banner image is showing on your site you usually need to click it again and then choose an icon to make it into a link (Like you do on cerb) for example

1) Click the insertimage.gif icon here

2) enter the image URL (In this case http://cerb.ca/banners/cerbanimated.gif)

3) The cerb banner will appear in your post just click on it again and then click the createlink.gif icon (Meaning word wide web link hence the world and the chain link in the icon) and enter http://www.cerb.ca (You need the http:// for most sites to make links work)

4) Out banner should now be linked to cerb from your website.

Are you sure about that, Mod? cerb/ca -> cerb.ca in the href part, perhaps? Or have I just forgotten my html (it's been a long time since I wrote any)

Here is additional info I got from Mod about banners,

SUBDOMAIN:

Is more for those who do not have a website. http://www.cerb.ca/xxxx/ is a link you can advertise on other sites or in newsprint that would take the visitor to your profile (or URL of your choosing - some link to their recommendation thread)

LINK BACK:

Placing a link or banner linking back to cerb on your website is a requirement if you wish to advertise your website URL here on cerb in your ads, signature, profile, etc... This is OPTIONAL if you purchase a banner.

The subdomain has nothing to do with banners. Meaghan is having problems understanding all this banner stuff and we are just going back and forth. Can someone please help he lady (maybe someone can explain it better then i can as i am really swamped right now)

I now understand the difference between subdomain and banners, and that is why I put mods response here. I am sure there are others that didn't understand this.

I was able to get my banner linked on my website. Thanks!

xoxo
