RCMP make 11 arrests in prostitution operation, Moncton, N.B.

2013/7/19

Eleven women, ranging in age from 21 to 61 years old, were arrested for prostitution related offenses in Moncton.

The arrests were made on July 18, 2013 as part of a prostitution operation by the Codiac Regional RCMP Street Crime Unit in the St. George Street\Boulevard area in Moncton.

The operation is part of an ongoing effort by Codiac Regional RCMP to curb sex trade activities in our community. The Codiac Regional RCMP's primary objective is to ensure safe homes and safe communities for all citizens.

"Unfortunately, prostitution is often linked to other criminal behavior which creates a sense of insecurity in the community. Our operations are aimed at ensuring everyone feel, and are indeed, safe in their neighborhood", said Codiac RCMP Cst. Damien Thériault.

If you have information about prostitution related activities, please leave a detailed message on the Codiac Regional RCMP Prostitution Tip Line at 506-388-7511.

Seven of the women were released on a promise to appear in Moncton Provincial Court at a later date. Four were also charged for breach of probation and were held to appear in court today.

It looks like this was a round-up of street-based sex workers, possibly due to neighbourhood complaints and probably also because it was fairly easy for the police to observe, and probably film, a lot of what was going on.
