1 pointSo I went today and it was all in in French, so I didn't stay for the whole thing, but since it was put on by le CLAP, they were handing out brochures with their vision on them, which I also could only understand parts of, but which I was thoroughly disgusted by. I kept the flyer, if I get access to a scanner, I'll load it up, or if I get bored enough, I'll just type it out. I had a chance to talk to two members of the CLAP and their views are actually ignorant. They use prostitution as a scapegoat for a number of things, the two main ones being the trafficking of women and children and their sale into sexual slavery, and kiddie porn. Things they said to me: "don't you think that sex is simply the domination of a man over a woman?" (this actually came from a guy, so my response was, well you have sex don't you? He didn't answer. That's what I thought.) "don't you realize the impact you have on little girls?" (excuse me? what impact? I work in total isolation. It's not as though I'm wandering around talking to little kids about the virtues of renting your body. If you're so worried about the hypersexualization of young children, you should be more worried about the media, not us whores trying to make a living on the downlow so we don't get arrested. ) "We don't have a problem with prostitutes, they're the victim, if men didn't buy sex, then little children wouldn't get sold into sex slavery." (I'm not joking, this is the actual connection made. Clients are the problem now. And I'm just a dumbass victim.) That's just a few of the gems these folk are trying to proliferate. They push for the continued criminalization of prostitution, despite the fact that neither of these bright souls even knew that exchanging sex for compensation, financial or otherwise, was not illegal. I can't say what the actual academics had to say, because I was so angry I had to leave. They kept telling me how welcome I was, but it was obvious they didn't want me there, particularly when they tried to tell me I had no facts to back up what I was saying. I started quoting both the criminal code and the Canadian Charter of Rights. That shut them up quick. When I first arrived, wearing my Sex work is work! t-shirt, no one would sit anywhere near me. No one acknowledged me, and the one guy who did come over to talk to me wanted to know how I found out about the meeting (his tone implied that he was wondering why I was there at all) and I told him I was forwarded the event info from Chris Bruckert, who is a prof at Ottawa U and a POWER member. All I can say is don't step to me with your bullshit unless you've got evidence to back it up.

1 pointI have had 3 different Blackberry's in the last few years and am currently using the Storm !! as far as features go it by far the best BUT as for typing on it, although I am getting better, it has been the most frustrating of all the full key pad phones!! Many times I have almost called to deactivate it and reactivate my older BB.. Loki318

1 pointI am not anti-smoker but I don't like smelling of it. Smoker's breath is a guaranteed ED moment for me. It's not hard... One of my favourite ladies is a smoker, and she is considerate enough to Purelle her hands and rinse her mouth, and she never smells of smoke. I'll see her whenever I can.

1 pointI have had a couple of times when the woman has answered her phone during a visit, I haven't repeted with them. I forgot and left my phone on once, it beeped that I had a call, she politely asked if I wanted to answer it, I said no I'll call back later and turned it off, I did see her again. The thing I find most frustrating is getting to an incall location, calling to get room or appt number, and being asked "can you give me 10-15 mins and call me back?" I just drove 45-60 mins to get there, usually 5-10 mins early to find parking, and now i have to wait. Fortunately most of the time that has happened, it was well worth the wait and I have thought to myself when I was with her "good thing you didn't drive home". All that being said, neither of these has happened to me in the last 6-8 months.

1 pointNot necessarily, Apex. Those men screen the SP as much, or more, than we screen them. Phone conversations, e-mail conversations that are more than just three or four notes back and forth. They know she'll probably recognize them when they meet. They want to be sure that the SP is likely to be socially compatible before the meeting, that is, that she has a genuine understanding of confidentiality and privacy. For many of these men, using a well-known agency or an agent is one good way for them to be sure that the SP is sane, sober, not on drugs, and generally stable. They also refer each other to escorts whom they trust. Older escorts are often more appealing to these men for many of these reasons, particularly if the men are looking for an ongoing engagement. They're also very likely to ask for "social" meetings the first time or two that they meet the SP. Whether they can have sex with the escort isn't a question: that's a sure thing. Whether they can trust her is what counts. As for questions not to ask, I don't appreciate being asked how much I earn or whether I know Mr. X. I'll tell another SP that I know Mr. X and that he's okay. I never tell a client or a prospective client whether I know anyone, anywhere, at all.

1 pointEmma. you're just encouraging more jocularity by offering to spank us for not being serious. ;-) But seriously folks, Market, Centretown or Westboro would be the way to go. Seems to me that you know at least one real estate mogul on here (lol). Perhaps you could put them on retainer (just to show them the other side of the coin, as it were - lol) to find you something suitable.
-
1 pointIt all depends what you want to be close to, and how much noise you want to put up with... :-) The market is typically very busy, as it's one of the two major "night-life" areas of Ottawa (the other being Elgin). Parking is challenging at the best of times, and during any kind of event, it's pretty much impossible. Almost every weekend during the summer has some kind of event going on, and a few times during the winter as well. Centretown (the "business core") is not as bad for parking and traffic except during rush hours (unless the bus drivers are on strike, then it's awful), and doesn't get as busy during the summer events. Heading westward, Hintonburg is well on its way to being yuppified, and Westboro is yuppification all over...so, nice neighbourhoods, but getting a little pricey. However, you don't have to worry as much about traffic and parking (in the residential neighbourhoods, anyway). Lots more areas besides these, but that's a start, anyway...

1 pointI have just recently upgrading my cell phone to a Blackberry Storm and eally love it. It makes things much easier when I am away from my computer to answer all my emails, open attachments that people send, work online, and so forth. Investing in the proper Data Package is a must when upgrading to a smart phone. Keeps the costs down and improves the performance of what I can do with it. Like Erin, my contract was nearly over aand was able to upgrade at a much less cost than having to but it outright. Also, now I don't have to lug around my damn laptop or try to find a WI-FI connection when out. I am connected at all times, 24/7, 365 days a year. I even included my work number as a buddy number so all my calls that are forwared don't cost a cent when I am away from my location or touring. Took some time getting used to the touch screen, but now its like another tool in the purse. Not quite as good as my toys, but close... Maybe once they make a cell phone that vibrates as good as my toys, I'll be able to just rely on the phone! Wink! Wink! But if you contract is still just in the first year, I'd wait to upgrade unless you REALLY must do so for work purposes.

1 pointI use text messages quite a bit, and for some reason I have the opposite problem. My wife has a "crack"berry and I have a difficult time using it. I guess its just what you're used to. I'm still contemplating taking the plunge into the smart phone era though. I'll probably go with a blackberry, since I loath the trendy apple thing. I just think that while Ipod/Iphones/Macbooks are apparently 'better' I just don't think they meet my cost-benefit thing. I might go with one of the lesser known companies since I like the new LG.

1 pointI am seeing problems with the rep system already. My preference would be that you can only get positive rep and whether or not it's hidden wouldn't matter. Kinda sticks with the principle of the board in the first place - no negative reviews, only recommendations. If I disapprove with what somebody says, I'll either make a counter point in the thread or just ignore it altogether. Seems reasonable to me. The way it is now, I've seen someone go back to a week old thread that hadn't been bumped, gave me a disapproval for a simple difference of opinion on a subject that had nothing to do with the industry, and then not a day later complained about people doing the same to him. I could be a dick and go back to counter disapprove, but that's pretty infantile ;) I won't poo-poo the concept as a whole, but by the time someone new figures out what those 'power' bars are next to their name, they'll probably have read enough posts to realize whose opinion is worth a lick of salt anyhow. The vast majority of regular posters continually have some fantastic input, and there's only the odd few I don't care much for what they have to say, so I pay them no mind. And having a billion rep points won't change that either...

1 pointI feel there are positive and negatives to both methodologies, IE, anonymous or not. But for me I want to see who gave me what. If its positive, I appreciate it and want to know who agreed with me. If its negative, I really want to know who its from. If its from a respected memeber at CERB, then it will really make me think if my post was accurate or whether I was off base somehow. The negative perspective to showing who gave the negative points is it could lead to the recipient of the negative points giving negative points to whoever gave them negative points out of spite. This sometimes happens on E-Bay, but then again, CERB isn't E-bay. I think what's important, is for us to show appreciation for good posts but to really think twice before giving negative reputation. I don't think negative rep should be given just because we don't agree with a post but only in a case of extreme inaccuracy. For instance, if someone says the today's Sun girl is Hot because he like tall women, I shouldn't give him a negative rep just because I disagree with him as I prefer shorter women. I guess that's obvious thou lol. Handing out negative rep just because of minor disagreements in opinion would deter people from commenting. Anyway, just my opinion. (please don't give me negative rep if you disagree with me)
