  1. I think that mainstream OS (Including Linux) as a desktop OS is on the way out. The future is the web based and app based OS's.

I think more people should try using Google apps even as a self-experiment to show the power of web-based computing today.

I steer everyone i know in that direction and as long as they are comfortable with using Google for their document creations, why not ? its accessible everywhere, shareable, you can collaborate with others, etc ...

There will be a need for a pure Desktop OS ( or extended cloud OS ) for at least the next 6-10 years. There are things that people do that just cannot be accomplished not because the computing platform isnt fast enough, but because of the bandwidth requirements.

My fear lately is the profit taking by the people in control of the infrastructure is soaring to new heights and they are potentially stalling the ability of companies to sell serious cloud-based high performance web apps.

Most iOS/Android devices are truly used as 'Media Consumption' devices - there is absolutely no way i could accomplish my job on an iPad or playbook. Perfect for media consumption and interaction though - absolutely perfect

  2.

    EDIT: one thing I forgot' date=' I still haven't figured out how to get a Mac-compatible mouse! It's on the to-do list.[/quote']

Ive used a microsoft 3 and 5 button mouse for 7 years on my Mac(s), no driver needed, works perfectly

in fact i prefer a multibutton mouse on my Mac Pro so i dont have to Control-click to get the contextual menus.

  3. A couple of things:

1 - is the video considered public domain, as in, is it ok for you to use the footage without permission?

2 - Instead of changing just one part of the audio have you considered recreating all of the audio ? Should be easy to get some crowd noise and a script of what to say. Then all you have to do is replace the audio track with your own

3 - Do you have software capable of helping you ? There's not a whole lot of free video/audio software out there that will let you accomplish what you're setting out to do unfortunately

  4. Ive had lots of experience at work with XP -> Vista -> Win7 and in my experience most computers and laptops that were validated for Vista after 2008 are highly likely to be windows 7 compatible and its is also highly likely that the drivers are the same for 7 as the ones for vista ( as in same driver package ).

Having said that - prudence dictates that you not only fully validate the hardware with the above quoted Microsoft link, but back up all files prior to any upgrade process. Additionally, a clean install of Win 7 will also have a better performance level than the upgrade route.

You cannot perform a reliable upgrade XP to 7 in case anyone is wondering - you must back up and clean install / restore files.
