Lot's of very good information here, thank you for starting this thread.
One thing that has piqued my curiosity: In the event of retirement of the SP, if a client learns of this from them, what would be the appropriate thing to do? Wish them the best or depending on the 'relationship' (rapport, etc.) a parting gift? What would be the appropriate etiquette?

All very informative stuff in this third, and as others have said, read, read and read. There's much info here and don't be afraid of older info, it's still applicable. Researching is key.
