Stereotypes of Men who Hire Sexworkers Offbase- Study

Recommended Posts

«This amazing study of men in Canada who hire sexworkers shows that the common stereotypes about them are way off base. Only preliminary results have been published so far, but they show a much different picture than most non-sexworkers are familiar with.»

I haven't read it yet but I'd thought I'd post.

alexandra, you'll likely be interested in some of the previous discussion about this. Both the discussion and the study are well worth the read!

CBC's "The Current" from 11 Jan 2010 (27 min 30 sec), discussing this study, can now be listened to here:

In a similar vein, though purely non-academic: Chester Brown's Paying for It is a graphic novel written by a client, from his POV.

I would love to read Paying For It, but I don't really want to have it on my bookshelf.

Any excerpts available online?

The big surprise for me in this study was the relatively low % of divorced men who use SP. It is mostly married men and single men. I don't know the demographics, but surely divorced men are a pretty big segment of the population. I would have thought they would be big users of SP - don't have the same constraints as married men do.

Any SP have a view on this? Does it match your client base?
