The White Knights Myth VS Reality

Is there?

See the top definition here: Urban Dictionary: White Knight... that's kind of where I'm coming from. But then...

... yeah, I've seen it used that way too, and I agree it's often used to dismiss arguments by questioning the motives of the poster.

Guess this is why we each need to establish up front which of the many definitions we're using in order to move the conversation forward.

I'm honestly not sure if it is possible for this conversation to move forward.

If we're discussing the "white knight" as an internet phenomenon then I think fortunateone has summed it up nicely as both a label and an insult.

Alternatively, if we are discussing the term as a guy who wishes to rescue a lady from her circumstances then all we are determining is that a) men have penises and b) at some point in their life they thought that playing the hero role might allow them to put said penis somewhere warm and wet.

We're three pages in to the thread and there is a very notable absence of ladies offering actual experience with these situations. Yes, Berlin and fortunateone have offered some helpful background and reference material but that is the extent of it.

While cerb is the friendliest of discussion boards available to the ladies we certainly do have our fair share of heated discussions. I'm willing to bet that every lady here has at least one white knight tale to tell but I doubt we'll see them shared in an open forum.

Dishing on clients (while protecting their anonymity) even with the intention to educate is still pretty much a lose/lose situation. There is a reason for doctor/patient, lawyer/client and escort/client confidentiality.

In the ladies only section, this thread would probably be a riot, but out here there is an awful lot of potential for things to be taken the wrong way. The sad truth of it is that unintentionally saying the wrong thing, being misunderstood or being taken out of context can cost a lady business.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go polish my armour.

By polish I mean rub.

And by armour I mean penis.

ps. Jane, I still think

My apology if the thread seemed to be elusive. Fortunateone was bang on the subject of this thread. It is the White Knight as an internet phenomenon in the context of forums devoted for the sex industry.

Ah! Okay, so anyone who read my long and now plainly off-topic post a page ago, please un-read it! :)

I would just like to throw something out there:

This conversation is predicated on the idea that there is a right way and a wrong way for a guy to be nice / decent / principled.

Is there an equivalent concept for women? I don't think there is and I can't think of a general situation where a woman is criticized for being too friendly or considerate.

But with men, there is a right way and a wrong way and being on the wrong side of it, you can get labeled a white knight, pussy, f**got.

It's a bit twisted and I'm sure it feeds into why a lot of men can be jerks. Because they are to a certain degree discouraged from being otherwise. And for a lot I'm sure it can just be easier than trying to navigate the waters of figuring out how to be "acceptably" nice without inviting ridicule.

Just my two cents.

I don't want to sound nerdy, but I always believe that white knights are inferior to the Grey Knights. I wonder if anyone here gets it.
