  1. Actually, highlights of the week.

I have been in Kingston since last Wednesday. I ended up driving a full 16 hours straight through and it was a good decision as I got here before a reasonably good snow storm.

I have had a great visit with my daughter and since we love projects we have have primed and painted their newly gyprocked basement and have laid a laminate floor.

Starting to look at weather for my trip home later in the week but who knows what we will end up in the middle of. :) Love getting away with my kids!

  2. I realize that what is useful to one person may be of no use to another however there are some pretty good Apps out there. I know for example that I can turn my iPhone into a level, but for me that's not a priority. I am now over a year into my conversion to the iPhone and I'd love to hear about and share some of the tools that are available.

Two contributions from me to start.

The iPhone does not have a timer built into it for taking pictures and this app called TimerCam is simple and works perfectly.

As long as one is accessing Wifi, there are a number of music Apps available. A favorite is Songza which has a multitude of premixed playlists that one may sort through by theme or mood.

  3. Road Trip!

I have not been off of the Island since early December and I am ready to go walkabout!

The weather appears as if it is going to cooperate in terms of snow, so I head out in the morning and eventually will end up at my daughters in Kingston for a bit. No side trip through Ottawa this time I expect, even though that social looks like it will be its usual good time.

On the way home I'll take a significant detour through to Halifax and by then I hope to come home to warmer weather and little plants peeking through the ground.

Now, I wonder how many Roll Up the Rim and Win cups I will collect along the way! Regardless, I'll be a winner with this trip. :)

  4. I still have not figured out how this works???

Well Jafo, "It's a dull day that you don't learn something new!"

I think we can thank that RG fella for bringing this thread back. It's nice to know that we have someone like that here to count on. This game is going in a little different direction from what was anticipated but it's all good. :)

  5. In keeping to the theme of this thread let me bring it to a merciful conclusion and "Put it out of it's misery," based on lack of interest!

It's obviously, "Gone over like a lead balloon," and another example of the fact that, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink."

However, "Nothing ventured nothing gained," and, "If at first you don't succeed, then try try again."

"To each his own I suppose."

We'll play this game, "When Hell freezes over." :) :) :)

  6. Some people have a saying for every situation.

In this game, the idea is to present a situation and then see who can come up with an appropriate saying or cliche. When you do so, then present a new situation for the next player.

As simple as it gets could be this.

Someone says, "I can hardly wait until I meet that woman from Cerb on Monday night." A response might be. "Patience is a virtue."

Next Up: " I am tired of the winter and want it to end."

  7. Why in this day of computers, when the tax year ends on December 31st, can't all tax slips be issued by the middle of January? Other than RRSP contributions which can be made up until the last day of February, everything else should have been issued a month and a half ago.

The cynical part of me says that the government is earning interest for two months on all of the little refunds that are owed to many of us.

  8.

I want to make my own back splash. Cupboards are in a peppercorn brown, walls grey, and the accent wall is a spring green.

    any suggestion for other material?

I have heard of this before and have seen pictures of floors and back splashes done in it as well, but how about pennies?

You can google pennies as a backsplash and see some how to's and lots of pictures.

  9. For sink sometimes I can be as easy as taking the cap off the peep trap which is just a screw located on the u looking part of the pipe. Sometimes the peep trap is actually a screw on pipe for the convenience of remove able.

All I gotta say is holy shit, how easy! And more so, THANK YOU Empty83. Who knew you could just unscrew that little cap!

I had tried Drano and yes RG the baking soda and vinegar trick and it still was a slow draining sink. One little cap came off, two minutes to reach in and pull out the crap, and a free flowing drain.

    Love it!

    Additional Comments:

John Caines hosts a very popular call in radio show dealing with home renovations. I would like to start a thread where cerbies could ask for suggestions and give advice regarding renos' date=' car maintenance,

electronics gardening, etc.... Let's share our hidden knowledge and abilities :)

This is the "how to" thread (how to anything....scrapbooking, stainglassing, photography etc....) so share what you are knowledgeable and passionate about and ask questions about what you want to learn![/quote']

Who ever thought Meg that when I met you that all this time later you would still be helping me. :) Thanks to this thread an irritating plumbing problem was fixed to perfection in less than five minutes.

    Kindred Spirits. :)

  10. So many places one could start but I thought for a first one it might be related in part to the word political.

When one looks at the political leadership in this country is there anyone that you trust? I mean trust in the sense that when they say something you have a sense that you believe them or that they themselves believe what they are saying

It is rather a sad statement of affairs that even after the past year of news events I would put a Rob Ford above a Harper or Mulcair. At least what you see is what you get with Rob Ford.

Every word that comes out of the mouth of the others is scripted, rehearsed and the content is based on what they believe people "want" them to say. Where has REAL gone in politics? They are all terrified of saying what they think.

Even Mr.Trudeau's disastrous "joke" this week was based on his allowing something to come out of his mouth that was not scripted. Will his handlers now issue him with his talking points and notes of what he is allowed to say.

Watching interviews and daily question period in the House of Commons is like watching trained seals. I always wonder how these people, who surely must have some degree of intelligence and some sense of right and wrong can allow themselves to be dictated to and told specifically what words should come out of their mouths, knowing full well that they are lying or obfuscating or misleading.

Surely to God they must question themselves and ask how they ever allowed themselves to sink to that level, to lose their own sense of right and wrong.

So a Rob Ford, despite his issues is a breath of fresh air for many people. I would love to see some reality from others.

Apparently Mr Ford still has a shot at winning the next election. Is that because there are many many people like me who are tired of seeing fakes and stand up puppets and this is their way of saying enough is enough?

Media says it is politically correct to crucify a Rob Ford. Despite that, is his popularity an indication that Canadians are at the point they would prefer a real person even with serious flaws over a fake person who lies about what they believe.

  11. I am still pretty well confined to the house and bored beyond, so I started a fun project. I began scanning old pictures from photo albums.

    Very fun. :)

I told Sara McQ once that my hair was once curlier than hers and I think she did not believe me. I now have the visual proof. :) :)

  12. Spring. Ahhhhhh, the thought. We have had three days of just above zero degrees, two of which had glorious blue skies. Enough of a taste that truly ones thoughts go to that most amazing of seasons.

Many know how much I love it here on PEI but perhaps the one drawback is the season of spring. For those in S. Ontario the season sweeps in with a nice day and then a nicer one and then followed by a nicer one again. On the Island we get a little taste and promise and then it snows on us. Then a few more teases but followed by a freezing rain storm or days of wet rain. Finally one day, poof, it's summer.

I miss my spring that I had when I was a kid. I am still and forever the optimist and every year at this time I think to myself, " This is the year. It's going to start now and just get nicer and nicer and nicer!"

May the Gods of Spring rise from the drifts.
