He goes by the name Wanksy. "I wanted to attract attention to the pothole and make it memorable. Nothing seemed to do this better than a giant comedy phallus," the man, whose nom de guerre is a nod to street artist Banksy, told the Manchester Evening News. "It seems to have become my signature. I just want to make people smile and draw attention to the problem." But the city isn't smiling. "Painting obscenities around potholes will not get them repaired any quicker but simply waste valuable time and resources," an unnamed spokesman for the local council said to the Evening News. Nonetheless, the story has a happy ending. Photos on the artist's Facebook page show several phallic potholes have been patched up -- some within 48 hours, Wanksy said.
