46 Years Ago Today, Beatles Played First Canadian Concert

Recommended Posts

Hard to believe, but it was Aug. 22, 1964 when the Beatles played their first concert in Canada.

Here's something I got off the Internet.

Vancouver BC - Beatles give their first Canadian concert in Empire Stadium before 20,000 fans; hosted by DJ Red Robinson and broadcast live over radio station CKNW; play songs from their new album Something New; top ticket price $5.25; police cut concert short after 27 minutes, fearing a riot; bootlegged tapes of the show widely distributed.

Radio Broadcast of part of the concert:

Today, as we know, there are only two remaining Beatles, Paul and Ringo.

RIP John and George.

Here's to the Beatles!!

It truly is amazing though... 40 years after they broke up, most people who speak English can still name more than 5 of their songs and many of us can still sing along with most of them....

Thanks for bringing this up Angela:

Funny how in such a short time they affected so many peoples lives.

Even though I was a few months from being born when this concert was given, the Beatles were a huge influence in my middle teens and beyond.

To me they symbolize peace and happiness.

I remember my parents and another couple donned wigs and t-shirts with appliqued beetles on them and went as the Beatles, Halloween 1964.

They all won first prize.

I wish I still had a picture.

My mother used to talk about the first time she saw them on the Ed Sullivan Show:

While I don't really recall the first appearance, I have a photographic reminder of the last appearance.

There is a picture of Old Dog as a young pup, angry, sullen and not very happy leaning against the post of some tourist location. He is not very happy because he has just been told that instead of going home to watch the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, we are headed to the Royal Botanical Gardens. What parent in their right mind thinks that looking at dumb flowers will take the mind of a young rocker off of the Beatles????
