My only wish is that they would allow international payments that way. Right now it's only Canadian acct to Canadian acct

 

Ah, it's what they say about assumption! I started off with transferring money outside of Canada, with different banks.Then continued using real name, as I didn't realize you didn't need it with the Canadian banks. Yay!! Learning something new everyday, and this time it's very useful, thanks a million! :)

With Email money transfer it's never been to my knowledge possible from outside Canada. If so.. I'd love to know which bank? I'm with CIBC

I would never use this, and never see this in a ladies room or house so why bother!

When you bring this, she is happy and you are down a little but it makes the world go round and nobody is paying any handling fees through credit cards/paypal or anything else.

Maybe my thought-process is too simplistic here, but using a credit card or non-cash transactions to pay for these services seems to have more drawbacks than benefits. Potential charge-backs, fraudulent use, disclosure of personal information, interest fees, transaction fees, etc... Cash is King. Take 5 minutes to go to a bank machine...voila...everyone's happy...enjoy the ride!

Yup! agree cash is king.. but some of us like to provide other things to people not in our city via mail or online service. OR as Samantha said pre-payment deposit for longer bookings.

Cash sent in the mail.. (although I've done it) not so good.

I had my credit card compromised through a reputable online service, years back , (and no it was not porn I do NOT pay for that stuff), so sorry I don't trust any online transactions with my credit card with any provider. That is my personal side of it, and BTW I did not get back my additional 400.00 bucks back that was ripped off from me, live and learn I guess.

 

Not saying that all providers would do anything of a sort, it was what happened to me.

 

And yes I was not worried about my privacy, but hated the outcome wouldn't you??

If you have to send money for a deposit for a long booking and or travel, the post office still sells money orders.

 

I do not think that you have to reveal true names to use these.

 

You do however need a physical address to send them to, no problem for agency ladies but may be an issue for the independants.

Money orders and bank drafts are nice things, it's true. And the recipient can fill in her own name when she receives it. But sending a blank money order is risky because anyone could put their name on it and negotiate it. I have done this in two cases, though. I have a post office box for mail and other special deliveries.

 

However, my bank still puts a hold on money orders and bank drafts because they can be faked--or so the bank says. If someone wants to send me a security deposit this way, the bank will hold it for seven banking days. If the money order or draft comes from outside the country, my bank may elect to put a hold on it for 21 banking days if the amount is greater than $200.00. That may be okay for advanced planning, but it's not usually the best option for the client or for me.

 

In lieu of cash deposits, two of my European clients sent me lovely gifts, equal in value to the deposit we'd agreed upon. I would have returned the gifts if they had needed to break the engagement for some reason, but that didn't happen in either case. In the end, the gifts ended up being just that: they paid my full fee when we met in person. Generosity is a splendid thing! ;-)

Cash may be king but it is also the easiest thing to convict a person on.

 

Ask anyone who is caught doing something naughty where large sums of cash are involved. The naughty deed may or may not get you convicted but that bank deposit of cash associated loosely or otherwise with that deed will with a very high degree of certainty. It is called laundering the proceeds of... And has startlingly low requirements in court.

 

Beh I hate that silliness. I have only ever encountered three individuals where there was ever any concern on my part and I just walked each time the gut told me to.

 

There will come a point in time though when the supremacy of cash will be challenged either by the presuit of legitimacy of the industry or a move to a non physical form of currency.

 

Just some food for thought.
