Why no stripclub in Hull?

Just pondering out loud but has anyone ever wondered why there's no sc in Hull? Seems odd to me. Gatineau has a few. Even Aylmer has 2. But none in Hull. Seems like there's a couple really good spots for them too. The bar strip on Portage seems like an obvious choice with all the government bldg's around there to keep it busy during lunchtimes and daytimes. And then you have the bar crowd at night. Also St Joseph seems to be a pretty busy street at all times...would probably be another good place for one. I've always wondered why there's none in Hull.

There used to be one years ago across from Shalimar on the west end of the bar strip. Probably closed when they cracked down on all the bars on the strip in the late 90's. can't remember the name of the place though.

The place was called "Le Lido". The building is now occupied by a branch of the autonomous university of mexico (cant remember the exact full name).

That was The Lido. It was never very popular and when the strip died, so did it.

It was the "Lido" a buddy of mine pass the bouncer through the front window one night 20 some years ago after he thought we were all englishmen from Ontario and he was stone out of his mind. He did not know we could speak french until it was too late.

best thing about this place was the bijou in the basement , $3 quarts , an overflowing trough in the bathroom , and all the dancers from the lido coming down the back stairs stairs to drink without bothering to get dressed first .

I dont know about Victoria street, but my understanding was always that Lido was the one referred as "Phase V", being so close to Portage Phase IV...

I think with the new zoning, no new strip bars can open. Only the existing ones who had their licenses before the new legislation. The old strip would be a perfect location, close to Ottawa and the Hull hotels. Another good location would be St. Joseph up near the mall. Close to the casino as well. I too have fond memories of Le Lido.

Yeah that's the area of St Joseph I was thinking about as well.

 

I thought the bylaw only affected Ottawa. I thought it was an Ottawa bylaw...unless I'm thinking about something else.

Didn't Le Lido also feature male dancers on certain nights? Or was there a male SC in the same building. I recall one weeknight in the late 80's or early 90's being picked up by a stripper at an Ottawa SC, who eventually had me drive her to Hull so she could watch her brother's (!!!) last show. I'm sure it was at Le Lido.

The thread is also a good photo tour of Hull and if you read the responses you can figure out what happened to the bar strip in Hull. Oh yes, the pharmacy in one of the photos: my wife's family founded that pharmacy. It was the first one in Hull. If you visit the place, her relative's diplomas are on the wall and their name is on the safe in the back.

The Lido was on our standard tour for visiting Americans when I lived in the corp world. We'd start at the Silver Dollar, dine at The Rose Bowl, hit the Lido, and end up at Le Gappe. The Gap was one of the strangest SCs I've ever seen. I really miss it!

Yak is right...the Quebec side won't issue anymore licenses either. At least we have is really good.

I don't think the Quebec side will issue any new licences but again, I may be wrong. I remember the Lido and it was where the Mexican university is indeed. The girls were very pretty there and the atmosphere very laid back. I don't know all the history but believe the zoning bylaws killed the strip club industry in Hull in the 1990s. Now that it is a larger Gatineau, can we expect harmonization of the bylaws? not sure... I do not see a strip club in Hull in the near future unfortunately. Miss the Lido.

 

Hopefully I am out-to-lunch and we will see pretty naked girls in Hull again... Cheers!
