It gives you insight into the life of an escort much in the same way that the British TV show 'Secret Diaries of a Call Girl' was trying to do. It is an arty film - which is to be expected from Steven Soderbergh - and is told in a disjointed chronological narrative similar to the film '21 Grams' or the works of Sasha Grey's favourite director Jean-Luc Godard. Sasha Grey is competent in the role, but that's about the extent of it. I found that her detachment and obvious disinterest with her clients was over the top. Yes, this was the part of the job they were trying to show, but if I was paying $2000/hr for an escort, I would expect someone that was fun and engaging...and she was neither, mostly just an empty shell that was there for company. Essentially, they gave you a portrait of someone who had become jaded and desensitized to the up and down emotional aspects of being a high priced escort. After seeing this and having watched the 'Secret Diaries' series, I would prefer to see something where the female character has a bit more of an emotional presence and not one of these ridiculously upscale escorts either. Something a bit more real and identifiable...I've heard much more interesting accounts from some of the ladies here and ones I've visited. It's a decent film and I like Soderbergh, so I found it worth watching. Not stellar though. And just as a note in case you wish to see it for anything titillating....there's no sex in the film at all and only the briefest glimpse of Sasha Grey naked. But at least it's not like you can't get that from her somewhere else... One personal comment I'll make is that I found her boyfriend to be quite the big weenie douchebag! Don't let the high-class, glamorous aspect of it be a turn off: it is smart, sometimes funny, sometimes sad, with complex characters that feel real, deep in emotions and relationships. I'm wondering where I can obtain a copy of the much sexier, more interesting, Canadian version of "Girlfriend Experience" as well as the CTV story about escorting. It looked boring, and even though I could have downloaded it for free I still haven't found myself interested enough to give it a shot yet. It was about as interesting as watching somebody getting up, brushing her teeth, making a sandwich and going to the bathroom. The film presents these issues very intelligently and maturely, and I recommend the film strongly." The boring one we are referring to is the American one starring pornstar Sasha Grey. The Canadian version's trailer, however, looks phenominal! I just don't know where I can get a copy of it! Most Rogers Video outlets are carrying it, but smaller stores should too. If your video store doesn't have it tell them to order it. (You can also buy it online at Chapters, Amazon, Rogers Video) . The Canadian GFE: GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE (director: Pietrobruno) focuses on the client. The American film (director: Soderbergh) focuses on the escort. They're both artsy ... artsy.
