I actually really enjoyed Django Unchained. But then I'm a huge fan of the Western genre. I think a mistake most people make when approaching a western is to think they'll be seeing an "action" movie. Most westerns are pretty slow paced in comparison with the action genre. I would argue that one of the best Westerns of all time, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly has an even slower pace than Django. The first 15 mins of the movie is two guys sitting at a table staring at each other and barely saying a word. The movie I didn't care for to much and thought was to long was the butler. It felt really quick, and lacked any sort of substance. I've been impressed with many of the new 're-imaginings' of old horror flicks, the Friday the 13th a few years back was AWESOME. Carrie is one of my favorite books. I'm a huge fan of Julianne Moore and Chloe Moretz has really impressed me so far. I wasn't expecting it to be better than the original movie but I was hoping it would at least be a more faithful adaptation of the book (since that's what they were promising it would be.) Actually Christopher Nolan didn't have anything to do with Man of Steel. I could be wrong but I think he was a producer in name only. Basically they cut him a check and he allowed them to slap his name onto the trailers and posters lol. It was Zack Snyder who directed it (300 and Watchmen). I have to disagree that the CGI was bad. The movie definitely had its faults but I don't think the visual effects were among them. Those were probably the best effects I've seen in any superhero movie to date. But alas, special effects alone don't make a good movie. I agree that the non stop fighting in the last hour got exhausting to watch (especially considering that the characters weren't even hurting each other....which made all that fighting and destruction completely pointless). And I never felt that any of the characters were fleshed out enough for me to really care....Superman himself barely had any lines in the movie. I cared more about Jenny Olsen trapped underneath the rubble than I did for Superman or any of his main supporting cast. I don't blame the cast for this movie's failings. They were all great. But the writing definitely needed improvement. And I dunno if it was the director's decision to turn the last 45 minutes of the movie into total destructo-porn....or if it was the studio's.....but that was a big mistake IMO. I like action and explosions as much as the next low brow schmo...but that was too over the top. Overall I would say the movie was....ok. I wouldn't go as far as to consider it "bad". It wasn't awful but it was nowhere near as good as it could or should have been.
