That's good in a way, but it also helps perpetuate this silly state of affairs. It's not helpful when the answer to "is this legal?" is "no, but you probably don't have to worry about enforcement."

 

We need the law to be sadly applied, then challenged and revealed to be ridiculous. It doesn't help for it to be left in the background threat, waiting to be spring on people next time the wind changes.

This is very true. However, I have seen governments do remarkable things including finding rationales to override legislation when it is in their own self-interest. It is indeed amazing how the "fine print" can be interpreted when a political need arises. So let's all be vigilant and active in this regard.
