My mom is 84, lives alone, and called me tonight because her new furnace stopped working. My brother went down first but couldn't get it working, so I drove the 10 miles to her place, put 40 liters of diesel fuel in the tank, bled it, and got it fired up. She wanted to pay me for the fuel and I refused......reminding her of how many times she and dad helped me over the years. Then I sat down with her and went over her bank statements. The part that sucks? Mom was sharp as a tack all her life and now is slowly starting to lose her memory. It's time for the son to become the parent and she deserves it.

Owning a farm and having kids.........it's been a ride, for sure. New calves that need names and attention- especially preemies. Litters of kittens every time I turned around and being torn between showing them to my kids or praying the kids didn't find them. Accident-prone foals. Baby birds......omfg......my kids would find them, bring them to me, we'd work out a mothering routine for them, and then my kids would disappear to grampies house for a few days.....grrrr. Friggin' things were usually too young when they were found and they would usually die just before my kids got home, but the kids just moved on to the next adventure without a "thanks for trying, dad"! Dogs....love 'em. I grew up with Border Collies and my current girl is now 15 and showing it. Loves the indoors in the wintertime (like me) and, when the time comes, my wife will have to take her to the vet because I cannot. I'll bury her on the farm in a special spot and cry when nobody's watching. My wife has a useless furball that she loves and spoils (okay, I kinda like her, too) that is a Lhasa Apso- Schitzu cross.....sorta like a cat. Oh, btw......cat lovers......you don't own cats- they own you! LOL . -
I'm with Katherine on this snow bit. Snow caused me to break my leg 3 years ago and I'm done with the love affair. Snow ads hours to my work day and I cannot wait for winter to end. Winters are getting easier in NS, but if they get worse, I'm heading to Florida for a month or two every winter.

I love threads like these for the same reasons that I talk too much when I first meet a lady from CERB.........because I love learning about people and what makes them tick. I'm a farmer and a family man. I love animals, plants, and tractors. I'm not religious, but I abide by the Golden Rule. I am a good friend because I care more about helping you than my personal wealth or well-being. My kids are my legacy and I'll do what I can to mentor them and get them further in life. My wife........okay, let's not go there except to say she's a terrific person who everyone loves, but she forgot what makes men happy-sex and sandwiches. I was ready to retire about 5 years ago, but now may have 2 youngsters returning to the farm, so I'm working with renewed vigor even though my body isn't 25 any longer. I consider many of the people on this forum friends and, when they disappear, I hope all is well with them. The ones I interact with on here, I'd love to meet someday. My bike is my solitude and I treasure those times alone.

To a special lady on here who lost a family member..........huge hug for you.

Got a call tonight. The boys are talking a bike trip to the rally in Sturgis in August (http://www.sturgismotorcyclerally.com/). Holy crap.....somehow, I am in. Two weeks on the road and likely 8000-9000 kms. Have to start doing squats.......this butt has to get toned up.

If in doubt, stick to CERB and drive the 60 miles to Halifax. I WISH I lived that close. However, as stated above, Penelope would be an excellent choice.

Parts supply lines. Unfricking real nowadays. My two biggest tractors are down at the same time. My old one is waiting for an oil cooler (10 days to delivery) and my new one is waiting for a cab door glass (don't ask) and was shipped from the USA (minimum 6 days). I don't care if it's warranty or not. Keeping equipment up and running is damned near impossible nowadays because the companies get bigger, leaner, and less responsive. I need another drink!

Nope..wouldn't do it. Being poor, good looking, and hung like a horse is preferable to an earlier chance of death. LOL

Would you pay to just cuddle?
cometman replied to a topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I voted no. I know myself and, even if I agreed to just cuddle, I'd try to cheat. Then, when she called me on it, I'd probably sulk, lol. -
On a bike trip with a bunch, I left a restaurant and forgot my expensive sunglasses. I went back in to find them and they were not to be found. Miffed, I returned to the group in the parking lot and informed them of my misfortune..only to have it pointed out that I was wearing them. I worry about my future.

How do you feel about being alone?
cometman replied to Nathalie L's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I run a business from my home and rarely get any alone time......constant communications and interruptions. My secret place is on my bike travelling. No phone (until gas stops) means I can relax. I finally learned this year that solo bike trips do not mean I have to stay at a different family member or friend's house every night. It may cost more, but I stay at motels and hotels...arriving at night and sleeping 'till I wake. Then, and only then, do I contact people for a visit. Before this, trips wore me out. Great thread. Reading this really made me realize how different lonely and alone really are. At times, I choose to be alone, but I do not have to be lonely. -
OMG....are you kidding me?

LOL........actually liked that one better. -
LOL.....I weep for our future. Additional Comments: This one's almost as bad, lol!

Cancer, be gone. My SO had a breast cancer scare and, after surgery and testing, she is cancer free. I usually have a joke per post, but not this time.

I follow the threads and the members and it doesn't take long to know who's hot and who's not. The good people of both genders show their personalities through their participation on here and those are the people I trust. The new people on here have to earn their stripes, and they will. Until they do, I trust the seasoned members' opinions and recos more. To answer the question, yes, post count still counts because they are trying to be a part of this forum.

How many of you guys??
cometman replied to perchie15's topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
I started about a month after my join date here and have probably seen ten or so ladies. I'm 55 and my list of ladies to see has grown smaller since I no longer feel like a kid in a candy shop, but there are a few that I will yet see because they really intrigue me and they have no idea who they are, lol. -
When an older piece of gear breaks time and again because of careless and inexperienced employees. ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!

What kind of business etiquette is this?
cometman replied to a topic in General Discussion Area - all of Canada
Ouch. Not cool. I have received a couple of unsolicited texts from providers in the past that were way after the fact of the date. However, my phone is locked (I know........yes, I have secrets) and no harm was done. The vast majority of communications between myself and SP's have been "by the book" and a pleasure to receive. -
Cancer. Cancer always sucks, and it may be close to me and mine again.

It's different for everyone. Is it traumatic? Not at all. Is it painless? Not at all. I wasn't back at work for a couple of days, but the peace of mind afterwards is worth it. Would I recommend it? If you want no more offspring, absolutely. Wanna chuckle? I went in for mine a few years back. I went into the operating room (they put you under back then), laid down, looked up, and knew every fucking woman in the room. I used to ride a school bus with two of them, used to ride the daughter of the head OR nurse, and my wife was a nurse at the same hospital at the time. that was bad enough, but it gets better. Been in an OR lately? They keep it cold, for sterility purposes. What happens to a penis when it's cold? I rest my case...........just shoot me, please.

Oh, I think if it's as good as he says, it'll be sticky soon enough.
