A Brief Justice Minister Response to C36

I have a friend who had written a letter regarding C36 when the Liberals got in. He just received a response that I'm including below. Looks to be that the pressing cases (Missing Indigenous Women, Assisted Suicide) are now tabled and going through the motions, they are catching up on other matters. "Committed to Reviewing" at least sounds positive.

Dear Mr. *****:

The Office of the Prime Minister has forwarded to me a copy of your

correspondence concerning prostitution. I regret the delay in responding.

As you know, the Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act

criminalizes purchasing sexual services, receiving a material benefit from

the prostitution of others, advertising the sale of others' sexual

services, and procuring. It also criminalizes communicating for the

purpose of selling sexual services in specific locations designed for use

by children, such as school grounds, playgrounds, and daycare centres.

Please be assured that the Government of Canada is committed to reviewing the adequacy of this legislation and monitoring the impacts of these reforms by engaging with those most affected by them.

I appreciate having had your comments brought to my attention.

Thank you and your friend for sharing that response.

I am very pleased to see that he did get an answer as I wrote to PM Trudeau, the Justice Minister and my own M.P,m and never did receive even an acknowledgement.

I realize that the still relatively new government has a lot on their plate so I will continue to trust that eventually they will review the existing legislation while at the same time listen to Amnesty International, the United Nations and the sex workers in this country.

Let's hope so... it's good to remain positive. And if they don't, it's up to us to keep reminding them! *lol*
