Wasn't a big fan of the music from the nineties. It was a decade that gave us Billy Ray Cyrus, Duran Duran, the Hansons and Kenny G.

There were some amazing songs though. Here are a copy of great songs and strong artists;

Sarah McLachlan - Building a Mystery

Annie Lennox - Walking on Broken Glass

As far as "popular music" went, I feel the 90's were pretty weak. But there were some great tracks that fell under the radar for sure!

Megadeth - A tout le monde

Danzig - Devil's Plaything

Goofy imagery, good song

Ben Harper - Give a man a home

The 90's were great for Electronic-metal music.

Front 242 from Belgium comes to mind in the early 90's

Frontline Assembly

Ministry

....to name a few bands.

Don't forget Filter (Short Bus), Nine Inch Nails (Downward Spiral), Tool (Undertow), Gravity Kills (Gravity Kills), Marilyn Manson (Antichrist Superstar), Stone Temple Pilots (Purple), Nirvana (In Utero), Alice in Chains (Jars of Clay), Blind Melon (Soup), Pearl Jam (All Albums), etc.

The 90's actually produced a great decade of incredible band and albums...it was the 80's and 2000's that have produced some really forgettable music (aside from G'n'R - Appetite for Destruction)...

We had music on all the time in the 90's and mixed in with all the pop dross was some great rock, grunge, power pop and a ton of homegrown talent just kicking it into high gear. Tragically Hip, Tea Pary, Sloan, Skydiggers, Wide Mouth Mason, Bare Naked Ladies and one of my favourites, The Odds:

kThe 90's were good to Canadian women like Sarah, Alanis, Celine and Shania but my favourite is Jann.

The 90s were the decade where music died. Say what you want about 80s music, but at least in the 80s, there were musicians who could actually play their instruments and write songs. Once Nirvana came along, a lot of music just became zero-talent crap.

Some good ones that slipped through the cracks:

Holy Wars - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYlUe-SDqA0

Jizzobber - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSOPBqzVZZw

Davidian - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0XrKF19yzE

If it wasn't for Pantera though, the entire 90s could be written off.

Concrete Blonde is a great way to start a thread about 90's music! The singer Jonette Napolitano is an amazing performer with a such powerful voice without the annoying modern RnB and Céline Dion hahohi voice contest...

I love 90's music. Other than the electronic metal bands already mentioned, all the following one's bloomed mainly in the 90's. In my view, they all are great artists.

Janes Addiction

Some Rioootttt Girrrrls: L7

Some Nerdy Punks: Helmet

Crazy project produced by John Zorn with a clear Zappa influence but still very 90:

Primus, featuring Tom Waits:

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds Featuring Kylie Minogue

PJ Harvey

A Tribe Called Quest (and many other great Rap bands)

The White Stripes

And of course, the tireless Beck!

I could go on for ever, Sonic Youth, the Beastie Boys were good in the 90's alos, etc!!!

I love 90's music!!!

Merci!

Nice of you to think of Me Mom, they were very fun live, maye we slammed into eachother at one of their concerts!!!

I love all of Nick Cave music, from Birthday Party to Grinderman. I can't say which one is my fav:)

Come on Galt, as Pantera used to sing: Respect!!!

It is impossible to have a whole decade without good music:) You might not like it but to say that none could play their instrument is a little too harsh!

One of the best albums of the decade

Achtung Baby by U2 (1991). Produced by Brian Eno - still one U2's best works.

I can't believe I forgot about Rust in Peace!!!! That album is a Thrashterpiece!

Megadeth - Take No Prisoners http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRzUU7C8v6A

However, I have to disagree on your statement regarding The 90's being a write off without Pantera.

Slayer released Seasons in The Abyss, Sepultura released the classic Arise, as well as Chaos A.D, And my personal favorites, D.R.I. had a pair of solid slabs of crossover thrash in Definition and Full Speed Ahead. The 90's were actually fairly great as far as Thrash and Punk was concerned

Out come the wolves changed my life, I may or may not have had a mohawk for years lol finally growing my hair out. Also that is one of my favorite good riddance albums. Basically I listen to 70's pre punk and 80's and 90's punk.
