See the video above. People are all up in arms about the "appropriateness" of this action. Sigh... If we can't take someone standing up quietly in Parliament with a sign in their hands, Canada will never see the change it needs to be the truly just country it already claims to be.

What she did was break one of the basic guidelines of being a page which is 'professional, impartial and efficient service'.

 

I think the 'Stop Harper' sign clearly shows that she's not impartial or professional.

 

Regardless of your politics, if you do something like this to upset your 'employer', you're going to loose your job.

My father was a page and Bridgette broke one of the rules she was fired and if it was worth it for 5 minutes of fame I hope she is happy

Her 15 minutes of fame won't just haunt her if looking for another government job, any prospective employer will certainly wonder about her personal suitability to work for them

I know when I was going to university, applying to be a page was a tough and highly sought after job, not something to be squandered by carrying a partisan sign and having 15 minutes of fame

If she really was concerned about Harper and his platform, why didn't she come out during the election campaign voicing her opinion and trying to sway the vote. Instead, when it is to late to make a difference, she insults Parliament by holding a stop Harper sign...yeah, real difference that makes

And for her to equate her "civil disobedience" with the Civil Rights movement, really IMHO insults the Civil Rights movement

All she is is a 15 minute news story, and I'm sure when she is looking for a career, she is going to find a lot of closed doors

As you have already seen, she has gotten a ton of media coverage! People are talking--whether they dissaprove or are enlightened, they're talking. And that was the point. She does not care about getting another job with the government, and frankly, I wouldn't either.

 

I do not know much about the specifics of the civil rights movement but I'm sure that, like all social justice movements, the civil disobedience (i.e. Rosa Parks refusing to sit at the back of the bus) carries along the movement. It is just the less heard of of tactics because those in power and those who write history don't want to let the rest of us know that disobeying the rules can some times bring larger change.

Canadian Forces and RCMP are two such, although the lines have been blurred in recent years. And fact is, like it or not, Harper did win a majority, through the election, which was brought on by a vote of non confidence by the Liberals/NDP/Bloc

I listened to her on CTV News and she came off arrogant and obviously not understanding the Civil Rights movement at all. She did this on a whim with a lot of misinformation and will likely end up regretting her decision.

 

IMHO a smart Page would have watched and observed and learned from the process and try to change the system from with in rather than being tossed out of the House of Commons by the Sgt at Arms.

I haven't seen her interview but I always respect people for protesting. It shows that they care and are willing to take risks,be subject to ridicule,firing or arrest. Even if I don't agree with their cause the great thing about democracy is that we can do this. Did you see the Sgt of Arms who escorted her out? Guy must have been over 70. What a great country that it wasn't by someone with a machine gun or that she didn't disappear.

It was a stupid stunt, but she is young and idealistic, we need more young people engaged in politics.

 

Her suggestion that we need an "Arab Spring" is insulting and shows a poor understanding of what is going on in the world. In the mid-east young women like her are fighting for basic rights we take for granted, and when they speak out they don't just lose their jobs, they are usually tortured,raped, and murdered.
