    finally getting far enough south (Charleston SC) on this wandering trip that it was warm enough to really enjoy being outside --- it is still 14 C at 6:50 pm and tomorrow should hit 18 C

     

    oh --- and also enjoying a fantastic day of museums --- there is a lot of history here

     

    and, I am finally far enough south that I am seeing a lot of Ontario plates

    I have made it to Charleston, SC and in a few minutes I am heading to Pearlz Oyster Bar ... it gets a 92% rating on urbanspoon and the menu on their website looks good ... when in this part of the world, I cannot think of a reason to not eat a lot of seafood

    Around the world today school children are paying tribute to Dr. Seussâ?? birthday (which is actually March 2).

    Dr. Theor Seuss Geisel, the acclaimed author of dozens of popular childrenâ??s books such as â??Green Eggs and Ham,â? was born March 2, 1904 and died Sept. 24, 1991 of throat cancer. He was 87.

    The American writer and poet was born in Springfield, Mass., and later adopted the pen name Dr. Seuss. He died in La Jolla, Calif.

    His birthday has been adopted as the annual date of national Read Across America Day.

    Here are the five most important things you should know about Dr. Seuss.

    He came up with the pen name Dr. Seuss after he was caught drinking in his room at Dartmouth College and was banned from extra-curricular activities, which included writing for the college humour magazine. He came up with Seuss to hide his identity. He added the â??Dr.â? title afterward.
    Dr. Seuss made a point of not beginning the writing of his stories with a moral in mind. â??Kids can see a moral coming a mile off,â? he once said.
    Mulberry St. in Springfield, near where he grew up, was made famous in his first childrenâ??s book â??And to Think that I Saw It on Mulberry Street.â? That book had been rejected by around 30 publishers.
    He completed â??Cat in the Hatâ? after receiving a challenge to write a book that children couldnâ??t put down and to use only 250 words that were important for first-graders to recognize. Seuss used 236 words to complete the book.
    Although he was so devoted to producing childrenâ??s books all his life, Dr. Seuss never had any children of his own. When asked about this, his stock answer was: â??You have â??em. Iâ??ll entertain â??em.â?

    after years of having a password protected, company supplied smartphone, I enjoyed the simplicity and speed of not having a password on my new personal iPhone ... but, I finally got around to adding one ... too much of my life is on that phone

     

    now I should go find the app that takes the user's picture if they enter the wrong password three times in a row and then emails the picture plus their GPS location to your email address

    this is the highlights of several days

     

    I am on day 6 of my 11 week drive (wander) around the USA

     

    I spent the weekend with good friends in upstate NY and had a great time catching up (as it had been too long since I had seen them) and taking in some of the area's points of interest (museum, symphony, etc.)

     

    then I backtracked slightly to Cooperstown and the Baseball Hall of Fame

     

    then I drove the backroads of NY and PA southward ... the scenery is a lot like driving 327 south from Mont-Tremblant ... hardly a straight piece of road longer than a hundred metres ... it seemed like a good idea until fog settled in and my speed was reduced to a crawl and I didn't get half as far as I planned that evening

     

    then Philadelphia ... if you have never been to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, get there ... it is amazing ... and of course, it has a statue of Rocky out front

     

    and, an hour ago I arrived in Washington DC

    I think the two possible routes are described above ... (a) recuse yourself or (b) provide a full and complete report

     

    my thought is that you should have done (a) in the first place, but having taken the job, you have to do (b)

     

    I don't think that the question around reporting someone for something you do yourself enters into this at all

    on the other hand ...

    We seem to be going through a period of nostalgia, and everyone seems to think yesterday was better than today. I don't think it was, and I would advise you not to wait ten years before admitting today was great.     ... once I get to know the lady, I prefer e-mail money transfers

     

    ... to canuck------'s point ... I once had CIBC freeze my bank account and start to reclaim the money from the lady's account because of her e-mail name ... I had to call CIBC's fraud line to get that sorted out and the solution was for her to use more ordinary sounding name for my e-mail transfers after that

     

    ... and I always use a separate account at another bank from where I do my regular banking for these transfers

     

     

    But it is not optimal for hobbiests who may have a joint account. The transaction shows up on the bank statement, and some of our payees have e-mail names that will stand out like a red flag.

    it was a beautiful day for a drive

     

    as a few of you know ... I am taking a year or so off and I am about to head off on a three month drive around the USA

     

    I have made a promise to myself to slow down, enjoy the scenery and avoid interstate highways whenever possible

     

    today I decided to practice ... I drove highway 7 from Toronto to Ottawa ... I haven't been east of Peterborough on 7 since I was a baby (so I don't remember that) ... I set the cruise control for 10 km/h over the limit and had a great drive

     

    and I guess it should not be a surprise, but the drive only took about 30 minutes longer than the race along the 401 would have, and I did not feel as tired as I usually do when I got out of my car at the hotel

    1st - my money is on Baltimore --- it helps that I hate the 49ers

     

    2nd - to say Pittsburgh is the best NFL team because they have the most Super Bowl wins is just silly --- if we are going to talk history, then lets go right back to the beginning of the NFL --- Green Bay was league champion 8 times between 1920 and 1966 and since then has won 4 Super Bowls

    an interesting topic ... it must be since the discussion started nearly 5 years ago

     

    my first encounter, in 1978 ... my wallet was hidden under the mattress in my hotel room ... mobile phones (as we think of them today) had not been invented

     

    I will admit, for my first couple of encounters after becoming a hobbyist in 2011, I did put my belongings out of sight in my hotel room, but I didn't go so far as to put them in the room safe

     

    since then, as I got more comfortable, I have not worried about leaving things out in the open

     

    if the lady is well known on cerb (or elsewhere), you've read the recommendations (or reviews) ... there should not be anything to worry about

     

    on the other hand, if I set something up via another channel with no way to verify the lady's reputation, I would probably hide my stuff ... but with cerb -- why would I need another channel ???

    tonight is a simple meal with wild boar sausage

     

    tomorrow, Christmas, my son and his girl friend are coming over and the menu will include:

    eggnog (home made from scratch)

    lots of snacks

    turkey with sage apple stuffing

    cranberry sauce

    mashed potatoes

    herbed green beans

    baked red onions

    'burnt' broccoli

    various deserts - mincemeat tarts (real home made mincemeat) - shortbread cookies - and truffles made by my son's girlfriend (she is a chef)

    lots of Zinfandel and Pinot Noir

    lucky me, I don't have a mortgage any more (of course, that also means I'm getting old - lol)

     

    looking back, every time I went fixed rate, I got burnt ... every study shows that variable is the way to go

     

    but ... we are at an interesting point "economically" ... at some point interest rates will have to start going up again ... but there is so much bad economic news that I think there will be another year or two or more before rates rise

     

    on the other hand ... there is something to be said for certainty and with rates so low locking in on payment you can afford means one less thing you need to worry about

    that is the point I was trying to make ... thank you for pulling up the court reference

     

    yes you can sexually assault your wife, husband, partner, SO, etc.

     

    so, don't ever wake your sleeping partner up by going down on him/her ... you could end up in a lot of trouble

     

    I guess you could get them to sign a limitless waiver

     

    it seems the world gets more complicated every day

     

     

    Anyway, my point is that if you accept the court's ruling, even if you are a 'nice guy' who gets consent to have sex with a sleeping women, because she cannot withdraw consent, you are committing an assault.
