Names, Branding and Oversaturation

Recommended Posts

Hello there!!

I was hoping I could get some advice and opinions on my current situation. For 4 years I was an exotic dancer by the name of Mystique. It has become almost like my brand and is really well recepted at the cities I worked in across Canada. But, when I began making occasional tours to escort in Mtl 2 years ago, I chose Maria because I really didn't like the idea of my two VERY different work lives to inadvertently comingle. (This unfortunately didn't always work out, lol)

Now that I have transitioned from dancing, I gave up the Mystique name because it just doesn't sound real enough. But I'm finding that the entire scene is diluted with Marias and some with poor repertoires... I feel it's early enough to make a name change without really causing any serious loss of clients, but; do I find another name, or do I become Le Mystique and use my already renowned name to stand out from the crowd and rekindle contacts with some of my favorite clients? (This is already my handle as a camgirl as well)

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated! !

Thank you ^.^

For what it's worth, I kind of like Mystique. Don't worry about it sounding "real" enough. Most guys know we don't use our real names, that the names we choose are just working names.

It's unique and sounds like served you well. Don't worry about dropping the Maria name. Guys will remember you more by the service you provide and your integrity than what your name is (was).

Using different names for different aspects of your overall business(You) is confusing. Stick with Mystique as it sounds somewhat unique. With branding it's repetition, repetition, repetition.

I agree with the above sentiments. If Mystique is a name that suits your brand and persona, plus you are already well known by that name it makes sense to keep it. Your idea of using Le Mystique also holds merit. Have you considered keeping Le Mystique as a surname of sorts and giving yourself a first name?

Maria Le Mystique

Devi Le Mystique

Vivian Le Mystique

Those are just off the top of my head (the first one because you mentioned using the name Maria though I quite like the sound of Vivian Le Mystique).

I have kept my stripper name and it serves me well. Also it gives me a background and people know me, so I am not 'new' in any parts... just different now lol

I know your post was probably primarily seeking the advise of the ladies here on Lyla but from a guys/client perspective I have to agree with what has already been said:

  • Pick a name that represents you and you feel good about
  • Guys fully understand that it is a work name and not real and frankly if they don't get that then maybe you would be better off not seeing them
  • The only concern a client should have with a lady changing her work name is if its required because of a bad reputation that she has earned and is trying to hide from. If you are planning on moving forward with Mystique then post the name change on here so its clear why the change is happening and for those existing clients where you have permission to contact send them a note advising of the change. it might also be a good idea to have a transition period where you post things using "Mystique (formarly Maria)" if you make the dirrect association it will be clear that the change is not a case of hiding from a bad reputation.

Just my Opinion

Mystique is a very pretty name and it definitely stands out! I think it'd suit you well according to the info you gave us. Mystique... like mysterious...mystical...beauty. It sounds intriguing, and that's exactly what you want. Go girl !

I like Mystique! And, should you choose to paint yourself blue with strategically placed scales, there are a number of us who are nerdy enough to appreciate that too! ;)
