Planning a trip to Chna in August

To help bring in my 50th birthday in style, I am going to China in August.

 

I was wonderng if anyone had been there and maybe offer up some tips/advice on basic

survival in a very different country..

The first thing to remember is that there are two laws: one for the Chinese and one for foreigners. It doesn't always work for the benefits of the chinese either. You may get to walk way completely oblivious and your chinese opposite will be facing the music after you are gone.

It's a great country to visit and to do business in.

Safe enough, my 25 yr old son and his wife have been backpacking for a month and not one problem

Make sure you get your visitor visa NOW!, takes a minimum of 60 days, watch their holidays not ours. Get your shots in time. take some water purifier as well.

Terra Cotta soldiers is a must see.

girls are clean, cute and run by the Triads, don't jerk them around!!!!

Give yourself a real gift and make a stop in Thailand on your way back.

 

Any of the beach locations are a blast. Try Pattaya for a few interesting days in the company of some very attractive young ladies.

I have spent some time there. It is a constantly changing country. Keep your eyes open for cameras. They are everywhere in the hotels - lobby, elevator, hallways. I did not find any in my room - but they did go into my mini-safe, tried my computer (encrypted drive) and even the business cards that I had collected (came back from dinner and they had been alphabetized).

 

I would expect no privacy and be concerned about blackmail.
