Why are so many places Asian?

Recommended Posts

Why the assumption that Asians are forced to work, but Eastern Europeans are not?

Why the assumption that they are forced to work at all? For all you know, these women know exactly what they're coming over here for, and come willingly. That doesn't mean they expect to be working as debt-bonded sex slaves, but it doesn't mean they were forced there either.

Well, I guess the assumption comes from news reports and stuff. Of course, your point may be that the news reports are suspect, but I have no input about that. The remaining suspicion comes from the fact that this sort of job is attached to a huge stigma back home with these girls. They often prefer not to see clients of their own Asian descent, as they are afraid that they might know them or their families. Asian owners are also often more concerned with maximising profit by skimping on expenses, so it gives rise to an assumption of near slave labour at these places.

Of course the assumptions may be all manufactured for propaganda, or not as bad as they say. But the above are what give rise to these assumptions.

Additional Comments:

But to specifically address your point, I think the real answer may lie in that the "rub and tug" business has more of a stigma to home grown Canadians than it does to immigrants from a culture where women providing men with pleasure seems to be far more acceptable. So why not open put your shingle out, promote it, make it easy to find and perhaps even draw in a few just looking for a rub and not the tug.

I don't think there's less stigma about this job to these immigrants. You do see most of them avoiding seeing other Asian men, lest they be acquainted with their families.

Interesting thread....I appreciate everyone's opinion.

As someone who has dabbled in massage for about 10 years now I can confidently say that when I started here in Ottawa there was barely an Asian presence in the MP scene. Fast forward to today and it is a completely different story!

When looking at Krusty's list -- if we remove the independants (as they are not really a 'parlour') and use a more complete list you will see that the Asian MPs now account for about 50% of the parlours!! That is a huge increase in less than a decade!!

Off the top of my head:

Jade Spa

Top Massage (bank street)

256 Bank St (upstairs)

the hair salon below 256 bank

Ting Tings

Somerset 1 (sorry don't know the Somerset names)

Somerset 2

Somerset 3

Shangri La Spa

Linda's on Wellington

Merivale

Palace Spa vanier

Colonnade street spa

Kent Street spa

I am sure there are others that I don't know about. Plus all of the Asian spas in Gatineau -- I don't know the scene across the river well enough to comment but there are at least 3 on St-Joseph alone!

I tend to shy away from the asian parlours for a couple of reasons due to personal experience. The few experiences I have with AMPs have involved way too much haggling over prices and extras -- kind of ruined the mood. And being asked to pay for each extra in the middle of the experience was off-putting. But the straw that broke the camel's back was when I found out after repeating a couple of times that at one of the downtown spas the girls were actually living/sleeping there and were being rotated in and out from Toronto -- just seemed wrong and a little iffy to me.

To be fair I am sure there are great Asian places even here in town. And I definitely don't want to lump all asian places into one category. These are just my experiences. Perhaps I should tofft and find the next gem.

one lady at an asian massage parlour told me she only got $10 from the $100 that I gave her for the hour.

So did you tip her more to compensate? That's most likely why she said that. This might shock you but you can't always take what you are told at face value in these places.

I think she was just saying that so you might tip her more. All these Chinese girls know what the bare minimum pay is with all the Aisan MP places so they won't stay for sure if they only get $10 for a 90 minute massage. A lot of these girls are full of BS.

If you ever talk to any of the girls in the AMPs, the stories are more or less the same. They know their degrees would not be recognized here especially those that did theirs in nursing or medicine and they have a language barrier issue to over come to find a decent job especially when they have no Canadian experence. All of them made sure they actually pick up a handy skill before they come to Canada. Some tried baking, makeup/skin care ... while others tried massages since it is a very easy and cheap skill to pay to pick up in China. They know they can make a good living with massages and have better and more flexible working hours than working in a restaurant so most of them opt for working in an AMP. Many of them told me everything is a daily profit as soon as the 3rd customer walls in the door during a day so it is a low cost, low risk and potentially high gain business for them.

Just look at Ting Ting is driving a Cadillac these days and others are making enough to have a fairly stylish life style as a part time student and part time MA. A lot of these girls or older women have ambitions based on their past careers or degrees so they would never be happy working for someone else other than owing their own business, which is why we have so many AMPs these days. Ting Ting, Judy, and many others used to work at Lisa's place or some other places in Hull. After they gained enough experience and learned more about the business, they all started their own MPs in Ottawa or in Hull. The owner of the Bubble Tea place on Somerset that also offer massages used to work at Ting Ting's too not long ago and now she owes her own business too.

It is just a job that they have the necessary skills to do and a business they have enough ambitions to take on especially when it is a profession that allows them to earn more than enough to satisfy their material needs when they really can't achieve by doing something else on their own with the little other skills they have.

Jamesk is right. Massage business is actually very profitable comparing the other business that requires little to no English. Once the Asian ladies understand how it works in this industry, they will leave and start their own massage business.

If you look up the yellowpages, you will see the massage section is filled with non-Asian places, but most of them are just rub not tug. Seriously I have nothing to against the growth of AMP. More competitions means more choice and better value. This is exactly what happening in GTA and Montreal.

I'm originally from Vancouver and spent many years traveling through ALL the AMPs out here. When I moved to Ottawa a few years ago, I was greatly surprised on the lack of AMPs here and the service was much lower quality than what I was used to in Vancouver.

I prefer AMPs because I find that their massage skills are generally better than non-AMP SPs, and their prices are lower. That's been my experience anyways. Moreso, I've talked to many of the asian SPs (in both Vancouver and Ottawa) who tell me that they're on a work/student visa, and that they make WAY more money in Canada doing the AMP/escort thing for a few months than they could in a lifetime back home. Also, they choose to work aboard so that family and friends will never know what they've done/doing.

The same cannot be said about a Canadian girl - how far can a girl move away w/o constantly looking over her shoulder that the next "john" might be a known friend or family member? That's why we have lots of Canadian SP "visitors" to our fair city... they won't work in the city they grew up / currently reside, but will escort elsewhere. Same is true for asians.

I believe it is out of necessity that so many asians work in massage. Many do not have the language skills to hold a regular job. Most asian mp's I know send money back to their families in their home country. I believe culturally they are less conditioned to the guilt trip so many christian women would have in this business. Of course none of them would be in the business if they could make the same money elsewhere....this is probably true for most providers.

been a while since I was on here.....been clean and sober which has diminished my sexual behaviours .. I now think before I dink.
