The first man to compare the cheeks of a young woman to a rose was obviously a poet; the first to repeat it was possibly an idiot.

It has probably already been written here...but I'll restate it, as it is something I use to remind myself that "what doesnt kill ya, only makes you stronger" and to "keep on truckin'' :)

I haven't participated in this thread (or maybe once; too lazy to check lol) but I am watching Whitney right now and laughed my ass off at this line from John Cleese's character....

"As I dig thru the salad of words for the crouton of truth."

Gotta love the Cleese and now, I gotta love the Whitney!

The women who take husbands not out of love but out of greed, to get their bills paid, to get a fine house and clothes and jewels; the women who marry to get out of a tiresome job, or to get away from disagreeable relatives, or to avoid being called an old maid -- these are whores in everything but name. The only difference between them and working girls is that truly talented working girls give a man his money's worth..........Polly Adler

Hear ye hear ye....lets take this to the square.

I just saw this thread and wanted to respond. I enjoy simple quotes that speak volumes and form a "code" for how i want to live my life.

Some of my favourites are:

-"Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments". Anonymous

-"In adversity, remember to keep an even mind". Horace

-"Thought is a guide to action, not a substitute for it". Unknown

-"Let's not look back in anger, or forward with fear, but around in awareness". James Thurber (this one gives me perspective)

-"Live as brave men; and if fortune is adverse, front it's blows with brave hearts". Marcus Tullius Cicero

My Favourite is: "An unexamined life is not worth living". Socrates

I saw this one as encouragement to examine(not necessarily change) my life, otherwise i may find one day it's slipped away, wasted.

Thanks for posting this thread, Carley.

Steve

Well this one perhaps may be original

I grew up a farm boy. Sometimes when problems arose and in the heat of the moment my dad would come up with some dandy's. Probably about 3 or four times as a kid I heard this :

"What F are you doing you assless donkey ass?"

Although the most acute judges of the witches and even the witches themselves, were convinced of the guilt of witchery, the guilt nevertheless was non-existent. It is thus with all guilt. - Nietzsche

I came across this one in the dedication of the book I'm reading right now:

"All I hope to say in books, all that I ever hope to say, is that I love the world" -E.B. White

My favorite author, Jack Kerouac had some most interesting and thoughtful quotes:

"If moderation is a fault, then indifference is a crime"

"All our best men are laughed at in this nightmare land"

"Great things are not accomplished by those who yield to trends and fads and popular opinion"

"I hope it is true that a man can die and yet not only live in others but give them life, and not only life, but that great consciousness of life".

My only love sprung from my only hate!

Too early seen unknown, and known too late!

Prodigious birth of love it is to me

That I must love a loathèd enemy - Shakespeare

My memorable quote

" When someone you love becomes a memory,

the memory becomes a treasure."

That is a beautiful quote!

What we have once enjoyed we can never lose,

All that we love deeply, becomes a part of us.

Helen Keller
