Bill C-30 Surveillance without a Warrant

Recommended Posts

So guess what taxpayers...not only do you get it up the ass....you also get to pay for it to get it up the ass!

Waitaminnit... depending on my mood, that doesn't always sound so bad.

And the moral is... remember your context! :)

the child pornography issue is a red herring ... the title of the bill was changed at the last minute ... perhaps, me thinks, to take advantage of the public's disgust over the slew of arrests across Ontario a few weeks ago

and I hope none of us would argue with catching those assholes ... but, maybe the police already have the tools they need ... they did make the arrests

the bill was originally designed for any case where the police decide they can't or shouldn't wait for a warrant

I'm sure we all completely trust their judgement lmao

for example ... they could decide that downloading music or movies is an immediate issue and then access all your personal information and internet transactions ... I know a lot of people who do that everyday

Cost of implementing this bill:

80 Million!

http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/story/2012/02/22/pol-lawful-access-costs.html

So guess what taxpayers...not only do you get it up the ass....you also get to pay for it to get it up the ass!

It's a lot more than 80 million. Remember the gun registry that ended up costing thousands of times the amount originally suggested, oh wait, we just gave up on that didn't we? Billions down the drain, guess it wasn't a good idea to start with, just like this one.

I've so enjoyed and learned that Canadians do have more of a sense of humor than I gave them credit for. The passive aggressive twitter feed #TellVicEverything provided me with quite literally hours of amusement.

Here are some key points to keep in mind:

It will cost a lot.

It's a majority Government so they can and will pass it if they want to.

There will be innocent people accused and prosecuted - already happened to someone I know, he is innocent (this I "know" to be true) was was found guilty anyways by an elderly Judge that didn't understand the evidence.

It eventually won't withstand a Supreme Court challenge.

There are lots of ways around it to have secure communications that can't be intercepted; yes, my IP address, name, address and every bit of Internet traffic but all they'll see is gibberish (a simple VPN tunnel to off-shore where the end point is outside of Canada).

The minister should resign for calling everyone that dares question him a child pornographer and for tabling a bill he himself didn't even read as well as a long list of other reasons, once he is subject to this much ridicule the best thing he can do is step down. Yeah, I noticed too how the name of it changed so quickly also but most Canadians were smart enough to see through this.

Do we really think that out internet usage is all that private? Don't all the corporate giants already look over our shoulders then blast us all with spam based on out online usage and demographics? Don't they sell all this to whomever they want? Didn't Google just get busted for doing this?

Maybe they just want to sell it to the government to make a few extra billion......you know, price of coffee goes up all the time, gotta keep up with that.

Police can already look over our shoulders to a degree, may need a warrant but those are more easily obtained that everyone thinks. Convictions in courts......that's another thing but they still get the information.

I think this is the extreme of the pendulum swing but something in the middle will work to keep those cyber criminals in check...... lots more bad going on than just child porn (although that should be a hanging offense, maybe the parents should get to pick what the offender gets hung by ;-) )

If us hobbyist and service providers as clever in how conduct ourselves it should not present any issues here.

Anyway..... that's my nickles worth

Big Brother has been watching us for a long time. Legally or no. Orwell was on to something but so were a lot of sf stories.

If any of you are on F***Book, Canadians are really pissed about this. Since I have almost 5000 friends, this particular social medium has always given me a pretty good cross-cut of opinion. It sure isn't pretty.

Thankfully this is one thread; as in my Newsfeed, I am bombarded with opinion, fact, and articles regarding this at the moment!
