Secure blog?

Recommended Posts

I was interested in setting up a blog for a friend. She'd like to make it so that only selected friends could view it. I assume that it means she'd have to make it password protected or have to administer a members list. What are her options?

Well don't know how to set up blogs, but no matter how many passwords or how secure, your friend should know whatever she commits to the web, once there, is there for good. So don't post anything that is too personal or could embarrass her in the future.

A quick two cents for whatever it's worth

I agree with RG what you post on the net you always run the risk of it getting out. There is no such thing as a "secure" anything.

To answer your question if I understand you right BB is you are looking for a place to create a "private" type blog for your friend.

From what I have read you can get that here:

http://wordpress.com/

They have settings you can set to private etc.....

It is possible to set up a blog on Wordpress.org that you can set up so that only certain people have access to it.

Wordpress is a service and a piece of software. Your friend could add extra security by installing the software on her own host and setting up passwords, etc with the hosting company.

She could also start a Diaspora seed which offers tight and granular security.

You can also use blogspot for the same thing and allow access to different types of people and also allow different types of access like admin, guest blogger/writer, certain emails allowed to view it :) there are also scripts that you can insert that require a password to read it which might be better because certain blogs with privacy can still sometimes be viewed :)
