Favorite Music Videos

Recommended Posts

I am showing my age here, but by far my favorite music video is Thriller by Michael Jackson. It included some great speaking lines by the horror movie icon Vincent Price. It set the standard for videos to come.

Secondly, in terms of comedy Wierd Al Yankovic's video called Fat is a take on Michael Jackson's video Bad is a favorite.

Not necessarily favourites, just a few interesting ones off the top of my head.

OK Go - Here It Goes Again

Pretty creative, sure there were 5000 takes

This kind of thing has been done a lot before, but I love this chick, she's so cute and hilarious. And pay attention to what she's saying boys...

Liars - Plaster Casts of Everything

This will either annoy you or give you nightmares. I like it, doubt you will. There are tits though.

Flying Lotus ? Parisian Goldfish

Hard core fucking in a music video. I'm not kidding! I'm sure you'll click here first!

This has some heartfelt singing...literally. Kinda icky.

Best video

! But if you haven't seen it...where have you been?

Geez, I am old fashioned compared to most people here, but I am melting when I hear this:

Not to mention the sight of the Grand Canyon I visited last year:)

Bonjour,

Cumquat, I agree with you about Daft Punk's video, its a great one (as impressive as their last tour, strikly genius!). Michel Gondry is an amazing director who knows how to create beautiful images out of simplicity. He also did great jobs with the White Stripes, Beck, Cibo Matto, Bjork and many others.

NIN also made a lot of great clips, remember the short one that brought us into a toilet? It was very unique and impressive when it came out in the 90's!

Do I always loved Rob Zombie (I am more familiar with his White Zombie period), I have to disagree with you for that choice, whats great about it comes from the imaginary of Kubrick so i would not include it in a list of best videos ever.

I had totally forgot about Petty's Alice in Wonderland clip, it reminded me of that one

If we are only talking about visual aspects here - not music - i really enjoy those two who were produced in the last couple of years:

video and Justice D.A.N.C.E., simple but so great.

I could go on for ever, they are so many...

Ciao

Lou

Primus! Long time I havent seen those guys. Lately, i only listen to their music if I get lucky enough to fell on South Park episode in a hotel. They rocked my world a lot such as these guys did at the same period.

Intense - simplicity is again the key here. A lot of passion.

Beautiful. One camera, one shot.

I had never seen the Fat Boy Slim clip. It was a pleasure to see one of my all time favorite actor groove like that. I always had a thing for Christopher Walken. In high school, the other girls dreamed about Tom Cruise, I wanted Christopher and Al Pacino - and still do, they are hotties in my book:)

Thanks for sharing.

One of my favourite jazz guitar players is the late guitar virtuoso Joe Pass...I have most of his recorded music as I'm a big fan and a student of his music.

I just saw this video from the 90's for the first time and was blown away by it's beauty. Being a big fan of Nick Cave I'm not sure how I ever missed it. A beautiful yet disturbing video for an equally beautifully disturbing song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjTY8ildtFU&feature=fvst

Additional Comments:

And on a far less morose note I like this one because it has a bunch of....yup, you guessed it.........BOOBIES!!

A lot of artists I like had finished their careers or slowed down by the time music videos became a big deal. I often wonder what kind of videos would've accompanied their songs. David Bowie's video for 'I'm Afraid of Americans' was pretty cool and it made me wonder what he would've done with the artform if it had been around during his real heyday.

Same goes for Pink Floyd. I know they made that movie of The Wall, but I wonder what individually crafted videos would've been like for their songs. Same with The Beatles, who had their Yellow Submarine movie, I wonder what their music videos for their songs would've been like.

As for artists who really did awesome things with music videos, I would say Bjork is the queen of the mountain. A lot of her videos are directed by Michel Goundry who has done some really cool things with film as well. He directed Eternal Sunshine On The Spotless Mind and Where The Wild Things Are.

I always have liked Gord's humour and movement and the boys all look young here. But someone keeps turning on the lights.

Some great lines too...

"Don't tell me that they're talking tough,

Somehow not anti-social enough"

"Those Himalayas of the mind,

In the long passes over time."

and best, "lawns cut by bare breasted women."
