Alexandra-Sky 12606 Report post Posted January 18, 2011 I attended an amazing workshop this past weekend. It was a training for facilitators of workshops (I attended it because I will be facilitating a workshop on self care in the coming weeks and another one on consent and escorting the week after that). Anyway, something that I realized, which is so obvious and yet so overlooked, is the power of thinking about the positive things in our lives. Often, at least in my life and my immediate circles of friends, we are quite self critical and pessimistic (and rightly so seeing as life can be quite harsh at times). Nevertheless, positive reinforcement in our lives is definitely one of the many ways we can attempt to maintain a certain level of happiness and provide ourselves with the means to be able to care for ourselves to avoid burn outs, depressions and overwhelming exhaustion and sadness in general. This thread's purpose is to allow you to tell the CERB community about one good thing that has happened to you in the last couple of weeks. My hope is that this thread will be lively for quite some time and people can use it to share their positive experiences with others on this site. It doesn't have to be CERB related or SP/Hobbiest related. Anything you want, really. GO!

PistolPete 61421 Report post Posted January 18, 2011 Great thread Alexander, if I may go back just prior to Christmas, a loved one has been battling cancer (and yes life can be very harsh to those that surround us). Without the great care by nurses and physicians that person would not of been able to spend Christmas at home. It was a real positive experience for me, and very happy news of course. At that time, week before Christmas, I really could not care a less about the celebration of Christmas and was not in the right frame of mind, only until our family member was out of the hospital that it all became positive. I also posted this in our Charity group, http://www.cerb.ca/vbulletin/group.php?groupid=46 I have a couple of teen age kids, and to give them a life lesson about those less unfortunate, we donated 200 dollars worth of groceries and dropped them off to the local food bank.My kids help with buying, loading and dropping off, then assisting at the food bank for a couple of hours. Lastly as liquor states above, I always have had this motto through my life, from years back I don't recall who told me it possibly my dad, "It doesn't cost anything to be nice to people" I have this quote framed at home....try it some day..it really does help your day in a positive manner ;) "A smile costs nothing but gives much. It enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich or mighty that he cannot get along without it and none is so poor that he cannot be made rich by it. Yet a smile cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give".
MightyPen 67414 Report post Posted January 18, 2011 My younger brother (with whom I've always been very close) and his wife had their first child last week, which was wonderful in itself. And they named him after me, which was a really overwhelming gesture. It was a really good week (more for that first reason than the second, of course, but both left me feeling great). Guest **cely***r***ne Report post Posted January 19, 2011 What a great idea alexandra! All too much we focus on the negativity that surrounds us. We become soaked in it really and it catches us like a spiderweb. I am the type of person who walks down the street and says hello to everyone I meet, and more often then not the only response I get is a dirty look or maybe a grunt.... wtf? So they other day I am walking downtown and I say hello to this elderly woman, well! She practically dropped her purse and was beside herself! She said " Thank you for saying hello"..... I was like "no Thank you for saying hello"..... it was a funny arguement....I love that lady! She made my day by just being human.....
Carrie Moon 68826 Report post Posted January 19, 2011 And they named him after me, which was a really overwhelming gesture. Did they name him little pen? :boobies: just kidding of course. I'm thankful this past month for the new puppies in my life. They have brought me so many giggles and affection. One thing that's made a great difference in my life is Louise Hay's movie.. ''You can heal your life''. She's an amazing woman who has turned her life around from one of childhood misery to love and healed so many people through her teachings. Focus on the positive can be learned.. many don't understand how or why others are successful at it when they aren't. You can be taught.
Guest G***f****** Report post Posted January 19, 2011 I had been going through a lot of emotional turmoil for the past few months. A complete stranger reached out to me and was just there to listen, offer me advice and support. This person has made a big difference in my life and for that I will always be grateful. Loralee Reach 245 Report post Posted January 19, 2011 When someone does something nice for us we feel blessed....I lost 3 weeks ago the keys of an important place....I have been looking everywhere...... This morning a lady from the building I live knocked at my door and asked me if I have lost a keyholder....I was impresssed at her clairvoyance because I never saw her before and I could not figure out how she knew the keys may have been mine, after all is many apartments in this complex.... She asked me to describe the key ring and I did.....she handed them to me....I gave her a huge hug and invited her to have a cup of coffee with me....I finally asked her how did she know the keys were mine.... she said : "I have been knowcking at every door in the building and you certainly could have lived in a lower storey......" ha, ha, ha, this beautiful lady is close to 80 years of age!!! Blessed she be for blessing me with her presence and thoughtfullness!!!! and thanks Alexandra for this thread.....it will grow because we all have wonderful experiences day to day! xoxoxo Loralee
VedaSloan 119179 Report post Posted January 20, 2011 The other day I was having an emotional breakdown regarding some academic shit, and my lover just let me cry and at one point reached across the table to hold my hand. It was just a small gesture, but it really meant a lot.
SamanthaEvans 166766 Report post Posted January 20, 2011 I'm a painter. But even though I love making artwork, it's often very hard for me to devote time to it. When there are other demands on my time and focus, it can feel very selfish thing to go into the wordless place where I can just watch the way light falls on people, animals, places and things, and then try to render that on my canvas. But some paintings have been haunting my dreams for awhile. And so, when I heard about a couple of very fine art shows this year, I decided to enter them. No matter what, I would have paintings ready to send in. I've finished my entries for the first show and I sent the photos to the jury today. I don't know whether they'll be included in the exhibit in May. Right now, what I care about is that I got them done, I think they're good and I like them. roamingguy 300292 Report post Posted January 20, 2011 Couple more popped into my head...wasn't thinking about them when I first posted First one. I've had to look after my mother taking her back and fourth to surgeries/doctors appointments etc. It took alot of my time, and really cut into my fishing last summer (it's also one reason I need to plan my hobbying way ahead of time)...but I digress. I'm not complaining however, because I consider myself lucky that my mother is alive and well enough that I can be around to look after her Second one...and some will consider it sappy. There was a ferrill kitten at the humane society, which if not adopted was to be returned to where it came from after getting shots/neutered. Well he saw me and adopted me, and instead of having to go back out in the cold, he has a warm home and he is allowing me to live with him, all I have to do is feed him and pay the rent LOL RG
