When out of town clients come to Montreal (especially those visiting from the USA) they are surprised that I speak English without a significant accent. My situation is a bit unique in that I am French Canadian, but due to where I lived my parents sent me to an English school and subsequently my English is stronger than my French (I also did my CEGEP and University in English).

 

I frame this as an English French bilingualism issue but there are also times when clients speak very little English or French, but another language. Same thing with SPs who recently have come to Canada. So the question can apply to those situations too.

Clients do you have specific expectations on the level of bilingualism from your SP? If the lady speaks predominately French does that affect your meeting with her? Do you let the language of amour carry you through when with a SP that speaks little English and you speak little French (or vice versa)? Do you find a French accent charming? :-)

 

Ladies If you are predominately English or French speaking how do you handle those appointments when your client speaks little or not all of your Mother Tongue? Do you go straight to the main event or do you engage in a little playful language lesson? Personally, I don't have sex in French so I like learning some of the sexy words my French clients like to use during sex. Its a fun ice breaker. This is also the case when I have Irish/Scottish/English clients. I love learning other cultures' slang words for sex.

Although I was fluently bilingual at the end of high school, I went to an English university and lost my French. I can speak it when I really need to, but it takes effort. I'd love to get it back.

I was scared to try it but French Immersion was an option when I was going to school grade 6-8. Never did it

Then I tried French Language Training with the government...long story short, it was much harder than any university course I took, into my 5th month I quit

Probably would have been bilingual, had I done French Immersion, but alas, I was just a kid and didn't know any better

I've only had a few French clients, and they all spoke English well enough for us to get by. I've had a few Chinese clients though who spoke no English or French and in those cases we sort of just feel each other out, literally. Haha.

 

I took French until the end of high school, but have subsequently lost most of it.

 

Since then, I've become fairly fluent in Italian, so to make myself sound cool, we'll say I'm bilingual. Haha.

For me, it doesn't really matter as i'm fluent in both languages. Being francophone, i find though that french is more .... Versatile in it's vocabulary if you're creative enough.... ;)

I am French from France, move here when I was fairly young, I do have an accent in English, I would say in between both French Canadian and French from France... I am fairly good in English but there is some words I just can pronounce no matter what I try, I also always use French grammar, even in English...

 

It can make it awkward for gents that are really picky on grammar since I kinda suck at it.

 

I never really had problems with clients who don't speak French, but some that are from Asia...hard to understand...:S they have a really thick accent same with Scottish from the Lowlands or Welsh...I don't understand them at all...so hell I just jump on them :D

My first language is English but my dad is Francophone, so I do understand French very well. I am functional enough speaking French to be able to host a French-only client if I had to. Like Charlotte, I love learning slang words used by other cultures during sex.

I never had any language issues with clients. I am fluent in 3 languages, I guess it helps.

 

However, one thing that surprises me is that I am never asked by anglophone clients to talk dirty in French! One would have believe that listening to a woman whisper (or be directive:)) in French, especially for an anglo, is a common fantasy.

I will never forget my first day of kindergarden as the only English kid in a French classroom. Let's just say you learn the important things like "can I go pee" really quickly. I hated my parents for a few weeks but soon learned to fit in. All of my education right up to university was in French. I thank my parents (who never learned the language) very much for giving my brother and I the opportunity to learn a second language.
