Former Harper advisor had deal with escort for First Nations water contracts

Since the address given in the "offending" article is a building with 238 condos, it hardly locates the lady in a physical sense. I presume the sensitivity expressed here on this thread is really due to who she is, rather than the address of her building. The public articles on Michelle McPherson explicitly connected her to her escorting alias. So far, the public articles have not explicitly connected the second lady to her escorting alias. There may be hope here that this connection remains forever unstated. The second lady, after all, has not been shown to have done anything like the first lady did (sign a contract with potential benefits of $80 million in questionable money). I can very well imagine that it's no fun at all to get her name and personals dragged into this mess.

Both Michele and Barbara had contracts or other financial documents tying them to Bruce Carson - was this wise? I think there are important things to be seen in this issue.

Yes, and if the media was fair, there would be a picture of his Wife, and her life story !

. . . . The second issue that we all should care about is the media attention given to the whole escort connection. This clearly shows the risks we all take in our involvement in industry - as both clients and providers. This should be prompting us to discuss the levels of discretion that we should all by applying. For us gents it is the importance of remaining anonymous. For ladies it is the dual-edged dangers of needing to know some information about the gents to ensure their safety but also about getting caught up as collateral damage if one of their clients gets caught 'in the news'.

This is an important question, one that most of us often ponder, I'm sure. It's not difficult for many men to attempt to be anonymous, but for some men it's impossible or close to it, particularly if they seek paid companionship in the city or region where they reside. As I'm sure we can appreciate, many, many of us have very well-known clients, whether they're politicians, civil servants, members of the legal profession and the judiciary, entertainers, clergy, sports figures, members of the print and broadcast media--you name it! One might recommend that these gentlemen should not seek avail themselves of paid companionship, but we also know that dog won't hunt, nohow!

Some men take enormous risks in multiple areas of their lives. It appears that Mr. Carson is one such man. One could say that his familiarity with escorts posed a risk to him, but there are no reports that these women outed him, or themselves in relation to him. It appears that his problem was not that he enjoys paid companionship, but that it can be represented as one of a number of questionable activities he engaged in.

The names of his wife or other officials involved in granting his security clearance do not affect the central aspect to this story which is that he had a relationship with an escort while being a senior advisor to the Prime Minister of a highly morally and religious conservative government. Someone who gained knowledge of his involvement with an escort would have leverage over him that would not compare to knowledge of his wife's name.

The details of Barbara's name and past were disclosed by the media as part of basic journalism to back up their story and claims with facts. Simply saying that facts have come to light that he saw a second escort without backing it up with specific facts simply doesn't cut it in the standards of professional journalism.

Okay I am lost here. May be I miss something.... Her full name was given in the article and her age too. So how many people with that name and age live in this 238 unit condo. How is it not possible to locate her. A simple google search with full name and condo street address will in most cases reveal the apartment number...

We can't change the fact that it's public knowledge, sorry though we may be about that.

Human curiosity being what it is, let us ask ourselves the question: Which would have drawn more attention on this board to (among other things) the address of the condo bulding where Carson purchased a unit:

1) A simple run-of-the-mill link to a news story that in turn happened to have that information buried within it, or

2) The existing posted declaration that there is a media report out there so hot that we dare not link to it?

I guess we've seen the answer.

Being obviously defensive about something ... often brings unwanted attention to precisely that which we wish to escape notice. My feeling is that we should ask ourselves "what do we not want to have happen here?" - and conduct ourselves accordingly.

Thanks for the comments WIT. My comments were directed generally at the opportunistic media rather than specifically to cerb. The media seems not caring at all who they may be hurting in the process as long as they sell their papers.... and I followed that by saying that we should not follow that wrong on cerb just because it has been made public already doesn't make it right.

I don't know if we have read the same news but from my readings, the escort who some believe the identity should be protected was convinved of serious crimes. She already made the news about being an escort and a pimp. To what I understand, she used to own an agency. When the clients were "too ruff" or did not pay, her gang was using of violence, threats and was robbing clients. I understand their business was illegal but I don't believe in these tactics to solve problems neither. Also, I have a hard time with the "too ruff" affirmation (being ruff is not enough?). This case is in my book another argument for decriminalization but that is another story. My point is that she is no angel nor a victim. I kind of believe that she somehow knows how to protect herself.

I believe that the public as the right to know and I don't see why as escorts, when we get into these games, we deserve more protection than anyone else. Of course, it sells more when the story involves sex and kinky secrets, but that is not the journalist fault. We all take part of society and most of us are probably like any other human: we also like to read crispy stories with juicy details that makes the celeb, famous and elite looks equal and as human as any other person.

Carson is a major prick and a criminal who had a special access to most moralist, and "crime fighter" government of Canada's history. We have the right to know.

... i find it very disgusting... its not the mention of "being" escort or anything.. really at the end of day.. who cares.. shit.. its the oldest profession...and theres always something about the business in the news lately..

what really bothers me.. (being first nations and all) is that we ACTUALLY have big problems within our community.. and idiots like the people in question are taking advantage of my fellow first nations.. instead of helping they are hurting... how fair is that.. i dont find it amusing at all.. very very sad.. like we have third world living conditions in most communities.. we need help .. not people to take advantage.

shame on them.. !!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all about money.. but in the process really hurting human beings.. safe drinking water is vital.. and they are selling faulty products.. canada is the problem.. we need to band together and really care for each other.. no matter what race color gender.. we all deserve the best of care..

didnt we fight for freedom??? i dont get it

You are absolutely right. Canada has been pointed by the finger big time by the United Nation for the lack of drinking water on reservations. Another problem is the price of food on the reservations that are far away from the big cities. Most are disturb by the living conditions of native people, the government invest money in all kind of programs but avoid making market rules in favor of the native for them to benefit from decent food at decent prices.

That Carson and his gang took advantage of this is a total disgrace and the fact that these women are escorts does not make it worst. The fact that they were escorts and one is an ex "person living on the avail-pimp" convicte with of criminal charges demonstrate the hypocrisy of it all and the lack of equal treatment at the Parlement. If you are a "bad boy" but you are on our team, that is fine.... But don't dare act like this if you are not with us. That is why the public as the right to know.

I am glad that the issue of clean drinking water is getting some air play, however there is no evidence that the filters that were proposed to be sold are faulty, also until the RCMP says so there is no wrong doing here other than the fact that Carson put his credibility in jeopardy by dating escorts.

I too have crossed the line on more than one occasion, however I have always had a plan B in the event that I am outed.

Lets stick to the facts, there is no proof that Carson has done anything wrong, that is why the PM called in the RCMP and the solicitor generals office to find out if any laws were broken and what remedies the courts and police should tale if any. If we want to point the finger at him for seeing escorts than lets all look in our own back yard first. Did he get to close to them considering his position of trust? Probably.

Dating escorts is NOT a wrong doing and does not (or should not) put anybody's credibility in jeopardy regardless of the job he may have if he sees them outside his working hours and if it is done legally (like outcalls or not in bawdy house or what is legally defined as bawdy house). It is like a date, using internet to find a date instead of a nightclub for busy professionals who can't afford the time to cruise dance bars late at night. I do agree (and I said it much earlier in the thread) that at this stage these are all allegations and under investigations and until proven otherwise everyone is assumed innocent until proven guilty. If he is found guilty he should be punished but not for being engaged to an escort as this is not a crime.

If every politician, judge and police officer who spends time with paid companions were outed, a lot of things might grind to a halt under the weight of the scandal.

Just saying.... ;-)

Mr Carson is back in the news. Not sure there is much that is really new, save for the peccadillo of $28K on the school credit card, all within a month.

Not on SPs, alas. I was all ready to be quite impressed by such a heroic effort, but now I feel sadly let down :)
