Guest S**a*Q Report post Posted January 4, 2012 There's a surprise... LOL! ;) Well I've started writing my book for those who knew that I was writing one. For those that didn't, It has begun!!! *(As the guy from Mortal Kombat would say. :D) ANYWAYS!!! I've started writing and kinda bypassed a little of the researching, I figured I could wing it and deal, but then I remembered that I'd be insane not to hit up the reach of people that I have here... Here's the question: My main character is an escort *(big surprise...hehehe!) HOWEVER, she lives and works in the USA. What I'm wondering from men and ladies, what are the differences there and here when booking or meeting for the first time. Obviously I have to think of LE more, which is mostly why my character will have her awesome regulars... *(All of which, I've usurped from my real life, as creating new characters is way harder than stealing people I already know.) Also, I don't think girls would have their faces showing as much in photos and stuff... Back to the main questions at hand... If I were to write it like my main character was working in Canada, cause that's what I know, what would be different...? Let me know, and it's something to discuss :D Thanks for your help. I SO want to be usurped! Either way I can't wait to read it :D I'm sure you've already tried this but maybe a google search of escorting in the U.S? In your case he would recommend keeping your escort in Canada. Being in a Canadian city would also affect your novel in many subtle ways as that would also be something you know. Steven King was born and raised (and still lives) in Maine and he has set a great number of his books there. Best of luck, I think its absolutely great that you are doing this. I know that books sell better when based in the US. My main girl will be from Canada though, but was relocated cause of... something. :) And I have been googling escorts and stuff in the US... The whole "Escorting" biz will be an offside, as the story focuses more on the main character and her interactions with what's happening around her. When Americans come to Montreal most offer it up without me even asking. They also use verification services where the info goes into a database of sorts but is encrypted and then providers can search via a number to see if they have been white listed. If you are trying to see someone who has some preputation then you can expect to have to provide a reference (local), a method of communication (email or valid phone number) and at some point a credit card. This makes arrangements with an unknown provider almost impossible if you have any privacy issues at all. This means that you have to either expose yourself to the threat, try to meet up with someone directly (bar/street) or forget about meeting someone until you have screened her as well. There are pockets that are similar to the practice in Canada but both co-exist in the US more than in Canada. The whole industry, though more lucrative, has more of an underworld feel to it. I guess the lure for SPs would be the money. Thank goodness for Canada where there is more trust involved. Hope that the writing progresses well. teched 418 Report post Posted January 4, 2012 Nevada is an interesting US location. The Ranches are unlike anything in Canada or elsewhere in the US. They are close to Reno and Las Vegas. I used one once some time ago and when you are buzzed through the gate, you enter the building and are met by half a dozen ladies lined up for your selection, then off you go. I didn't hang out in the bar as I was the only one there and felt somewhat out of place. In another southern state I simply used a review type site. Not being a member the review text was limited, but I found a great lady who charged the same as a high end Ottawa provider and who quoted her donation as Roses rather than dollars. She arrived at the hotel and the rest is as you would expect and I had hoped.:icon_smile: A thought for you re location, I am a Sci Fi fan and I enjoy stories like yours where the location is unknown. You could use your Canadian experience in an unnamed country and you would have the flexibility to create any environment/situation that your imagination can vision. If you use enough to make the reader think it might be located in some unknown corner of the US that can help. I would start by researching that first to help develop your characters' parameters and believable scenarios, even if it is a horror story. On one of my trips to Vegas I got a cab from the airport to hotel. Cabbie asks what hotel and then asked if I wanted a girl to cum up to my room. No hesitation at all, did not know me from Adam. If escorting is only going to be a background to the story, you may not need to know too much more than that without going into specific details of the biz down there. I think that face pics are actually more common than here, for validity and so clients arriving (or having sp arrive) can be more sure it won't be an LE sting. I think that there is a perception that rates are crazy high, but there is also just as much chance someone is working at 100/hr as they are at 500/hr, or more, so it isn't really a for sure thing. You may want your character to be higher end tho, and independent, so she can charge and be located wherever you like. She is not going to provide menus of services, and she will have that standard rates are for time clause, of course. She will hang up or ignore emails and calls from anyone wanting her to get specific about them, fwiw. I haven't heard of any clients being required to show CCs, but ID yes, like driver license. Keeping in mind that LE has no problem providing that either. She could tho use references, date check services, and you can eliminate some of the need to discuss the screening in detail. Montreal girl who went to the states and became rather famous in NY circles. Really difficult to get a copy to buy now.... but the main branch has it on its shelves from time to time.
