I've recently read elsewhere where members say/assume SPs most probably can't hold down "real jobs" or are probably not educated enough to have one so they choose to be SPs instead. They also add to the latter by saying SPs prefer to make easy money (and tax free) the easy and lazy way (on their backs)...

We also sleep in until noon because we party all night lol

One other thing in my experience, nice ladies and gentlemen do partake in this lifestyle.

I hope I'm not thought of as a John and I haven't met any hookers, whores or prostitutes,

Just ladies

And with the ladies' using screening/verification they are very selective on who they see,

contrary to public opinion

And in my personal life, I've found many guys who assume that I must be an easy lay, and sleep around personally, because I'm an escort. Which isn't the case.

I agree with this one, I have not told many people in my private life that this is my profession because of this simple reason, most people will automatically assume that because I work in the sex industry I am automatically a hoe, and will sleep with anyone and everyone.... Completely not the case....

My work life and my private life I two separate lives and I truly embrace both of them

Since most of the big ones have already been said, I'm going to add:

The idea that sex workers are bad parents, or that they can't be around kids (eg. as teachers) if they've had a past in the sex industry.

I as well have to completely agree with this one... I know many people who work in this industry and have children, I being one of them, and I dont what so ever bring this lifestyle around them, I can be a fabulous mother as well as a fabulous MA/SP and not get them intertwined with each other

I also dont think that hobbyist should be frowned upon when it comes to being around children.... Its just sex, even it can get a little kinky sometimes its still just natural sex ;)

Afterall isnt that where children came from in the first place ;)

This is an interesting post and I find all of the comments illuminating, but unfortunately, the stereotypes that the main population thinks about this industry still do happen and that is where the stigma lies. Also, since I began hobbying, I have run into the very things that society is also stating and thinking about this profession! Not a lot, but it is still there. I don't know what the solution is, but like any industry if you have a few bad apples it can spoil the whole bushel!

I agree with Nicolettes comment that SP's don't enjoy what they do. I have had the pleasure of many an SP who really does enjoy herself and these are the ones I will return to. I don't care how drop dead sexy they may be if they aren't into it I won't repeat. If I could have sex all the time and make a little green I would . Not sure how well I'd do ..lol! but what fun I would have trying

So many good comments on this thread that I agree with.

For me the one of the biggest misconception is that the business is only about SEX.... in my experience it is about companionship and friendship as much as sex.

Just my opinion.

Well this one time in Ottawa. I hooked up with Cleo for ....well an extended visit. I couldn't figure out how to get out of the fucking revolving door so............ Hi.... it's me again ;)

Was about to start a new thread and found this one, thought I'd bump it

For me personally, these are the misconceptions that get to me:

People that think independent workers see clients for the entire duration of their posted hours. If an independent lady posts that she is available between 12-8, it doesn't mean she's seeing 8 one-hour clients. I know I could not possibly see that many clients, and wouldn't want to - I wouldn't have any time for ME. Most girls I know see a selected number of clients within that time frame - it's not a revolving door of men. We post the hours we're willing to see clients during, then go about our lives based upon the appointments we have booked.

And in my personal life, I've found many guys who assume that I must be an easy lay, and sleep around personally, because I'm an escort. Which isn't the case.

Ooooooooooh I GOT one.

That prostitution is the world's oldest profession.

Nope.

The first guy that had to pay had the first profession. He was a mammoth hunter, or a flint sharpener or a Visigoth mercenary or a saber toothed tiger trainer or something like that. Somebody had to have the money to pay the first SP.

What probably is more accurate is that prostitution is the oldest CONTINUOUS profession.

Glad I cleared that up for you.

Carry on.

I think we all forgot the obvious one, (mostly because it isn't true) that all sps got into this biz when they were 14. Or, should I say, were 'forced' into this biz by a smooth talking turned violent pimp who turns her out to clients who know she's 14, because all clients prefer to see sps who are 14 and forced, rather than older like 25, and willing. Because, really there are NOT any sps who are willing, but if they say they are willing, it is only because they are delusional (or privileged, meaning, not typical).

Could be a delusional privileged sp, i suppose, who is, by the definition of privileged, educated and white, of course. Because there can NOT be anyone who isn't white who could possibly grow up in this heavily biased society of ours and be considered to be making a conscious choice to do sex work, because if you aren't white (aka privileged) you must be marginalized, and therefore, unable to make decisions that are good for you, due to your long history of violence and racism against you by the white (privileged) women who pretend they can speak for you, because, of course, no woman of any other race is capable of speaking for themselves, on this issue. Unless of course they are former sps, who are now abolitionists. :)

Anyways, back to the delusional privileged sp, how is it that she came to be educated and white, given she started (I means was forced) to start at the tender age of 14, at which time she was also 'trafficked' (although how she came to be trafficked when she is working in her home town, also puzzling).......

Can't quite wrap my head around how all that 'must' be true, because someone says that is the reality of all sex workers, except of course, when it isn't.

As you can see, I have spent FAR too much time this month on rabble.ca btw :)

This one hits close to home:

Recently curiousm7 was discovered and the majority of friends and family think I am scum, repulsive, a pervert etc...etc.

They feel I have been screwing around with doped up dirty sluts and disease riddled whores.

Those who are uneducated most certainly have serious misconceptions.

I had a coffee with one of those friends late this afternoon and I logged into cerb and we surfed together. He was astounded and amazed by this community. Thankfully he is one of my more open-minded friends but, he did admit that he shared the view of the others around me. On Monday we are having coffee in the morning again and he wants to peruse this board some more. Who knows...cerb may have a new member by Monday noon.

When I look at the web sites of the women here, I see all their various university and colleges degrees listed, so the "not educated" part is such a misconception. So many of us get degrees in one field or the other, but who really ends up working in their field at the end of the day!!

Another one is trust...that most SP's cannot be trusted

My experience, the vast majority of ladies can be trusted, and I do trust them. By trust I provide my personal information for screening to a lady, and I'm not hiding my wallet, watch etc when seeing a lady...if I felt that much mistrust that I wouldn't provide screening information, and needed to hide my wallet, watch etc I wouldn't see the lady

And in certain special cases there are ladies I absolutely trust without reservation...to the point of being very open and honest about my private life. A watch and wallet can be replaced, your private life, that is something only shared with very few trusted friends...yes friends, not SPs, And privacy once gone can't be replaced

A rambling

Ohhhh... here a few more.

Service providers are witches. NOT TRUE. Witches float and are thus made of wood. That's why they burn witches. Service providers are not made of wood and generally are not ducks either. Ducks float and are not made of wood. So service providers are neither ducks nor wood.

Service providers tear the heads off of their mates after sex. NO!!!! You are thinking of a praying mantis. Praying mantises also float, but they are neither ducks nor wood, and also not service providers.

Service providers are defenseless. NOPE!!! Service providers get their credentials from the Jean Claude Van Damme school of charm, grace and kickass. To achieve their credentials, each and every one of the graduates must face JCVD, a tiger and a fruit explosion muffin in a fiery pit of death. JCVD usually is the first to withdraw. Soooo.... if you are in the same room with a service provider know that she has faced and defeated JCVD, a tiger and a muffin with her bare hands.

All service providers have a small portable barbecue in their bedrooms. I know, silly... right? Okay... MAYBE I did bring buns, condiments and raw hamburger patties to just one or two (okay it was 7) of my first encounters. HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT A HIBACHI AND HITACHI WERE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS! Now that I know better... or ... ummm... okay... there may have been some form of slapping me in the head.... but she did say that she was an expert in the handling of meat. Just sayin'.

Service providers need never shave their nether regions cuz they were born that way. Ummmmm.... damn. That's kinda true. Jeeeez. But.... hmmmmm. How do you explain..... errmmmmm. I am just baffled now...
