Have you watched any good movies lately?

Recommended Posts

I watched Bad Grampa the other night.

If you like the Jackass movies you'll like this one.

They have strung the hidden camera bits together with a story line, similar to Borat.

There are some really funny gags in this movie but one in particular is hilarious.

Worth seeing IMO.

Just saw the movie "Rush". It is a very good movie if you are into race car driving.

It's by Ron Howard and is about a rival between two race car drivers over the years.

Great action and story line. It's based on a true story.

Watched Skyfall again last night

Entertaining James Bond, not the best IMHO

Only JB where he lost

He was supposed to protect M, well we all know what happened to M and arch cyber villain Raoul Silva wanted to die and Bond obliged him

But entertaining nonetheless

I recently saw The Dark World (Thor) and it was enjoyable with the three d effects and the action and plot were enjoyable. On the scale out of ten I would give it a nine.

I just watched a cute little flick, The Way Way Back - Steve Carrell, Toni Collette, Allison Janney, Sam Rockwell. Good cast; I laughed, I cried. Not a brilliant masterpiece for the ages or anything, but certainly authentic and enjoyable. :)

I watched The World's End this weekend, the final movie in the Cornetto trilogy.

While I didn't find it quite as good as either Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz I would still recommend it. I think it may be one of those comedies I appreciate more after a second viewing.

If you enjoyed the first two you will enjoy this one too.

I watched Ip Man on Netflix last night.

It''s basically a story of an old kung fu teacher where he was the fore father of the martial arts in China and how he became the teacher of many, including Bruce Lee.

I've watched a bunch of good movies lately.

I saw The Family with Robert DeNiro and the always sexy Michelle Pfeiffer (still my favorite Catwoman :p) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwZNypYmPFE...it was brilliantly quirky and a lot of fun! A mafia family in witness protection tries (and fails) to fit into the French suburbs. Kinda like the Mafia's answer to the Addams Family lol

I saw Machete Kills.

I love these movies.....they're not all that intelligent (not at all actually lol)....the acting is laughable.....every actor in this just chews up the scenery like it was a giant fat greasy burrito and clearly have a great time doing so....the action sequences are beyond ridiculous.....but goddamn they're SO much fun to watch! I love movies that know they're bad and just embrace that fact whole heartedly! I can't wait for Machete Kills Again.....IN SPACE!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwudExxVtV0

And just rewatched Man On Fire today.

Great revenge flick with Denzel Washington, Christopher Walken (my fave!) and Dakota Fanning in her break out role.....her acting skills in this for someone so young never cease to amaze me. A very powerful, emotional and stylishly shot action movie. I generally really enjoy Tony Scott's movies and this one's no exception.

I saw "Ender's Game" a few weeks ago. Loved the novel, but the movie was a watered-down version of an interesting story.

One of the most intriguing parts of the story is reading about a young kid learning for the first time to devise tactics on a virtual battlefield, and tactics in social situations dealing with competing individuals. The movie had some of this, but not in enough detail to convey Ender's thinking process -- not surprising since it's so hard to convey that all-important internal monologue. Ah, well.

I also saw "12 Years a Slave" last weekend and it was superb in its acting, directing, cinematography, the whole bit. The worst thing I can say about it is that you leave the theater sort of worn down and emotionally burdened! Still, very much worth seeing.

First Position,

That sequence couldn't have been just coincidence! Or at least let my twisted imagination believe that's the case.

Watched 'The Sessions' with Helen Hunt, where she plays a sex therapist trying to help this poet that is paralyzed and is a virgin. He spends most of his day living in an Iron Long and has had various hired women to look after him. At 38 he has not had sex yet, and thought getting a sex surrogate was his only way. Helen Hunt is beautiful and fully nude in this movie as she tries to help him have sex. He has troubles for a while as he cum's within seconds in the first couple of sessions. It is a heart warming movie which is based on a true story. He falls in love 3 times in his life and this documents his experiences. Worth watching, I think it's a chick flick.

Just finished watching "Monsters"

The trailer is somewhat misleading.

This was a very different take on the "alien invasion" genre. It got a lot of criticism for having next to no action and being "boring", but that's because it was much more grounded in realism and had more to do with the characters, how they cope with their situation, and their growing relationship than it had to do with actual alien attacks (although there are a couple of intense scenes like that too). If you're expecting War of The Worlds or Transformers type of action scenes you'd be disappointed....this is very much a character driven drama.....which just happens to have an alien invasion as a backdrop.

The director who did this is also directing the new Godzilla movie coming out next year...I'm really hoping he adopted the same type of realism and fleshed out characters, and character development for that too, which would be very different for a Godzilla movie. Should be interesting to see.

Just came back from the Hunger Games: Catching Fire. I enjoyed it. It was a long movie, but it ends with a cliff hanger, now going to have to wait another year to see the conclusion. Very well made movie and good acting. A bit slow to start, but then builds up to a lot of action at the end.

This weekend I finally got netflix and have been watching kung fu movies.

Another member of Cerb recommended these movies about IP MAN.

IP MAN, IP MAN 2 and The Legend is born: IP Man.

These are movies made about the wing chun master that taught Bruce Lee Kung fu.

they are based on a true facts. the action was great if you are into martial arts.

Acting is good, but they are sub-titled. But it was easy to follow the movie.

I'm working my way through the Blu Ray edition of the Godfather trilogy. The first film was a quintessential New York City love letter. Each frame could have been hand painted by a Renaissance master. The second is an actor's tour de force with Pacino leading the way. The third film is a study in why every story does not need a third part.

Caught the extended edition of the Hobbit (Part 1).

I admit I'm a little surprised they came out with an extended edition, given that a lot of people already thought turning the book into three movies was a little much. That said, it's still a terrific and beautiful film, and though some of the added scenes were probably unnecessary, a few of them were a nice bonus.

I mean, especially if you felt the one thing the theatre version was missing was naked dwarven fountain wrestling! :icon_lol:

I have tried twice now to watch Fast and Furious 6. Both times, I have fallen asleep on it.
