Question... Why do some of the ladies type the phone numbers like 4}1{6#5)5:5^3?4{7}5

Question... Why do some of the ladies type the phone numbers like 4}1{6#5)5:5^3?4{7}5 instead of just (416) 555-3475

This seams to be a new thing and the ones who were doing it the most were the bait and switch agencies (I suspect they do this on CL so it's harder to google the number and find information) but why would a legit advertiser do this?

Should we just assume anyone who does this is trying to avoid google searches when someone tries to look up a phone number? Or is there another reason for this? Maybe some think it's trendy like the 416.555.3475 was a few years ago (with the periods instead of the brackets and dash) but if you ask me this is just crazy to display your phone number in this way!

Would be interested to hear some thoughts on this and maybe some explanations as to why this would be done.

I've wondered the same thing!

Part of it IMO some use CL and the same ad here they have to change things around for CL so they dont get detected for multiple post if they just copy and paste and dont change anything is what I think

And probably alot of what mod said as well

Yes it is the bait and switch issue in my estimation. Also...many websites do this to avoid spam emails....I guess they think it works the same with cell numbers...perhaps it does!?

If I could make a suggestion, many of us can view the ads on our mobile phones, iPhone or Blackberry and when these is a properly formatted number you can just click it to connect.

When the girl adds all the other characters we have to find a pen or try and remember.

So if you put a number in your ad please include the area code and don't use letters or symbols or put in extra spaces and make things easier for us guys to get in touch with the beautiful ladies.

In my case, I just changed my phone number and have been writing my phone number as follows (with spaces).

613 - 3 1 5 - 2 2 1 0

I use the same number for personal use and just want to make sure it can't be googled.

Had an 'incident' with my old number - in another thread you may recall I said my brother-in-law got into hot water at his work because my number appeared on his work cell phone and they accused him of using the company phone to solicit escorts.

Angela. Didn't you mention that there's some kind of software used to flag ads on CL? I would imagine if so this is a way to circumvent that!

I post my ads with /between the numbers a) so it can't be googled, and b) because I don't want people to be able to search the last four digits, which can make for easier flagging. For example it would be /6/0/4/7/5/3/8/5/9/1

I advertise on CL, and I am NOT a bait and switch.

Weather you spell out your number or disguise it, has nothing to do with a posting limit. Posting limits are determined by CL, and are different for each category. Currently in the ERS, it's a limit of three ads per account, in a 24 hour or less period. And what I mean by less, if you "rotate" your ads between accounts, you should be safe, and NOT get the message that you have suceded your daily posting limit. Even then, if you use up all three ads in one day per account, it is rarely a full 24 hours you have to wait to be able to post again, per account.

As for the flagging software, if you have the time and money, sure you could have it. But there is no gaurantee that it will work. CL auto posters got into a beat of heat with cease and desist letters from CL, as they where circumventing the TOS.

I copy and and paste because it is easier. Voila, a new ad up faster then people can flag it. Also, it helps to have various accounts and passwords memorized. Made it a challenge when I had 12+ to remember:roll:

Additional Comments:

I beg to differ on that. Not that I am your type or anything, but for the fact, if you can't take the time to READ the ad, and call the number, then chances are you are not interested. I haven't had a problem with disguising my number. It's not that difficult to figure out what it is.

CL works with almost all cell phones, land lines, and some VOIP providers. Want to know why I know? I have used them all:lol:

I despise texting and if I have to take time to figure out your# just means you don't want my money!

Sorry, again I disagree. If you can't take the time to figure it out, then why would I or anyone else for that matter, want to see you?

Its one thing on CL, but on CERB its something completely different. On CERB, to me, it just looks sloppy and I prefer it plain and simple. I also think that SPs should have a different number for their business. I don't understand why, personally, you would risk it when you could get a cheap phone with a card. To me that's like using your own personal email to set up appointments, which isn't a wise decision in my opinion.

As a Web Developer with some SEO background, I believe it's as AA says with it being a technique to avoid having bots (Google, CL or otherwise) scrape the number and list it/block it/what-have-you.

For a Discretion is Advised Business, I believe this is proper Due Diligence.

As an SP on-the-side to other business, friends, family, I am sure eliminating as may ways to be exposed is desirable.

I don't think the spaces in between look sloppy. But I agree other characters are strange and throw the eye off making it more difficult to detect what the real number is.

Most people who call me personally know I'm an escort, so that's not the issue, so I see no reason to get two phones. After all, it's another expense I don't need.

I totally agree...I use to have the 2 phone thing going on...but after a while, I just stopped using the personal one less & less....so to me it made no sense to keep the other line...

personal line doesnt exactly mean shes using her legal govn't name or real address to hook it up,( which is what i assume he meant by sayin its like using your personal email)- its just thats the number Everyone calls, not just clients....

Just another reason to hate CL I guess... I thought it was to avoid the FLAGs and such as the bait and switchers all seam to do it. I didn't want to just assume anyone doing it was bait and switch so I had to ask.

> The google reason (customer used his work phone) that is his own fault not yours. You should not hide your working phone number from google because of that (That is a bad reason)...

> Hiding from the people flagging ads... that is just part of CL I guess and another reason for the guys to avoid it and the ladies to stop using it.

Legitimate business's should not hide contact information like this or mask it in this way. It just makes you look shady and I bet a lot of guys just ignore ads like that.

In my case, it was me calling him - it was my brother-in-law - I was looking for my sister - they were at the mall.

But you raised a good point that some people might think it's shady to try and disguise your number.

An SP I know who has a roommate who doesn't know what she does, has been disguising her phone number, but hasn't had any complaints about it.

She likes to spell out her number six one three etc..

It just occurred to me that I think some people still believe they are not ALLOWED to post phone numbers in erotic ads and try to disguise them, even though it clearly posts that they can. I actually met someone a few years back who thought that. Makes you wonder if they look at other people's ads because if they did they'd know that's not true.

I think that's kind of the point.. In some cases anyways.

Sometimes (some of us) use methods of keeping clients we're not really interested in seeing away from us.

Some people probably aren't interested in someone who can't or isn't interested in them enough to simply take the slashes or spaces out of their posted number..

I thought the same thing!!! They think it's against the rules to post their phone numbers but if they took the time to read the rules, they'd see they're allowed to do so. To me, it's an indication of character in those cases.

Well lets agree to disagree, oh by the way once they figure out your phone # they an google it anyway.

And I would never be a client of yours, because I feel thatI don't have to figure out. There are allot of other SP's who will take my money gladdly.

A girlfriend sent me her new number all funny in an email the other day. I was kind of annoyed because I couldn't just click on the number and add it into my bb. I asked her why, she said she didn't want spy bots getting her number and then being bombarded with telemarketers. hmmm, I have never had a telemarketer call me for anything on my work phone. I do get the most interesting spam in my email box though, lol She is one of the most conservative (and the most paranoid, haha) friends I have. Prior to her doing that, I would have thought only certain types would do that. Paranoid people with things to hide, lol (no offense, my opinion only :))

Personally, I think when you disguise your number, you do lose out on classy older gentlemen. It looks shady, like you're hiding something. I know some of my gentle men friends pick me because I am super easy to communicate with, and I come across as professional, classy, and approachable. This is my business. I believe in showing the best face forward, and that face starts with my advertising.

Some of my older gentlemen friends don't even have cell phones. Some of them would not understand why girls do that, and people generally don't trust what they don't understand. It is not the same thing as expecting them to read your ad. I completely want people to read my website and ads. I want them to know my prices, availibility, etc before they phone. It is all about presentation :). The way the number is written is part of your representation. I think a space between each number is still very easy to read and look at, although hard to just call from a bb, but at least it still looks good. A dash or a symbol between each number is hard to read, especially for anybody with any kind of dyslexia. I think if you have to do it, a period or a space is the best way to present it.

I have 2 phones. I prefer it because if I don't feel like working, I don't answer my phone, but friends and family can still call me. I also have 2 emails. One for work and one for my friends. I like to keep my life separate.
