No doubt the promise was an election ploy that was cynically successful. Having said that, personally I'm for immigration and the more the better. We have the space and by and large new Canadians work hard and add to the economy and are thankful for the opportunities we so take for granted. Don't restrict it just to Syrian's though open the door to all who want to come here, not have to come here but want to come here. Peace MG

If everyone who uses pot recreationally could be coloured purple for a day your mind would be blown. It covers the waterfront and all walks of life. I have more than 30 years experience and have held executive positions and it's never hampered my cognitive abilities. I never toked on the job nor drank on the job. Like everything in life not everyone should imbibe and alcohol should likely be at the top of that list. Personally I support decriminalization as the first step, mostly because governments tend to screw things up. Peace MG

Here's an interesting correlation to my view any way. I know a few professional musicians who are struggling to find paying gigs that allow them to not need a day or straight gig as well, the boomers drove the bar scene in the 80's into the 90's when all clubs and bars had live music virtually 6 nights a week and for some that was enough dough to do it full time. Drinking and driving laws (hard to argue) and demographics have seen the live music scene drop to maybe 3 nights a week and as well an owner can offer up free mike nights where amateurs can use the stage to live out their dreams and the owner pays them nothing. They found the crowd size on a M-T-W and even Thurs weren't impacted by this and now the pro musicians struggle to find even weekend paying gigs. To me the correlation is this.. in our market BP ads are abundant in fact over abundant with part timers with burner cell phones who book a room for a day or two and scoop some dough and then disappear with little or no interest in cultivating an actual business or following. As well as the boomers move through and move on their replacements seem some what satisfied with this type of situation. Just like the live music business, things have changed. Peace MG

Decriminalized vs legalization in my view for the simple reason government will most likely screw it up. Set the rules and let the market forces figure it out. Some folks with a script for medical pot shun the govt product because it's much costlier and the quality isn't nearly as good. Peace MG

In my opinion it's very unlikely, unless of course their policy wonks and pollsters tell them it's a winner politically with the mainstream and an issue that they can win or lose an election on which it really isn't. The vast majority could care less because as a single issue it doesn't affect them one way or another. When elected the goal of government from minute one is to be re-elected and if elected with a minority not getting defeated until they want to be defeated. So I'd expect a reaction like while we might agree in principle more serious study is required before making any firm decision. They'll do the same thing with marijuana reform. Peace MG
