I'm inclined to agree with you - but I really don't think this is something where we're ever going to find a common standard that suits everyone. First up, I think quite a few guys go to SPs to experience particular things, whatever they may be - and quite often these things are not abstract nouns, but things that can be quite precisely described with an appropriate... menu item, for want of a better term. If that's your objective, it would seem wise to ensure that you're going to get what you want simply to avoid disappointment; avoiding disappointment benefits everyone in the long run. Secondly, I think pretty much all the ladies hereabouts make it pretty clear in their ads/websites what they do and don't do, and where the boundaries are. This strikes me as entirely necessary, but does that not already remove some of the mystery? Whether I'm visiting a MA or a SP offering other activities, I may not be able (or wish) to predict exactly what's going to happen, but it's usually pretty easy to predict some things that won't. Finally, I just don't agree that knowing that something's going to happen ahead of time makes it any less sexy when it does. Sometimes, anticipation is half the fun :)

Absolutely. I won't use it at all, and I probably have a lot less to lose than you. Call me paranoid, but I simply don't trust large corporations at all; how many won't either lose your data, or accidentally allow access to it by someone else, or mine it for their own purposes?

...I'm not by any means an expert on this, but AFAIK there are quite a few ladies who don't advertize greek, but may be happy to do it once they've got to know you. That gives them a chance to use your first meeting to work out things like how much they like you, whether the chemistry's there, and whether or not you're hung like a horse - and this is where the YMMV comes in. If you *really* want greek, then you're probably best off going to someone who advertizes it up front - that way you'll probably get it unless the lady decides there's a reason not to. If you're not too hung up on it and you plan on taking the time to sample the various delights that this hobby has to offer, you may choose to wait until you find someone you get on with well and then asking her. No guarantees with this, obviously - I'm sure many SPs just don't do it at all.

Well... when I see this happen, I tend to think... Seriously, it's often very hard to tell whether someone's just genuinely not getting it, or whether they're trolling. Either way, I'm with you on DNFTT as a general principle for maintaining your online sanity. And as always, the lolcats got there first :)

True. Also, spinning hard drives takes power - AFAIK SSHDs are rather more efficient. If you care about extending your battery lifetime, it's good to try to run it most of the way down before recharging, rather than running on battery a little and then topping up. Unfortunately the latter is how many folks use laptops if they don't think to do otherwise. Cellphone manufacturers have it easier, as most people only recharge their cell when it needs it - which turns out to be exactly the right thing to do. True again. Also, don't let anyone sell you anything based on processing power - you simply don't need it for school/email/web browsing. And more horsepower = less battery life :) Anything you buy should have more than enough space for school/email/web use. Pics, video and music are what really take up space, but an external drive is a good option for those unless you really want to carry them with you... Also, don't pick it up or hold it by the screen. Also also, no matter how much it pisses you off, don't put your fist through the screen. Apart from anything else, it hurts. I speak from experience :) As others have suggested, netbooks are cheap, tiny and will be able to do what you want. The only drawback to them is a lack of screen real-estate, if you care about that.
