  1. Getting home after getting the OK for a day off work so ready to confirm a meeting only to have messages that a second aunt in as many weeks died, this one totally unexpectedly.
  2. I ended up with Type 2 after a bout of bells palsy from one of the drugs they give for that which totally messes with body sugar. My endo put me on Victoza and I was always feeling sick and quezzy after so timed it for just before bed to sleep through the bad effects. About 14 months after starting I was at my annual meeting my mom's oncologist (great one who made a point to meet with her family members once a year to check on us to see if we were OK based on the hereditary aspects of what she had). As soon as he heard about me being on Victoza he send immediate cease and desists to my endo and pharmacist based on the thyroid cancer issue (was major concern based on moms stuff). From that one thing even though Mom died from her cancer a little over two years ago he still has me come in for checkups, and said plans to for at least 5 more years just based on the worries. Now I know every person reacts differently to everything so I may be an extreme situation but can say for me Victoza was not worth the risk or price, and my A1C was never really affected by it as the numbers stayed pretty much the same, and stable, on and off it with Metformin taken in both cases.
  3. Happy Birthday Emily. Hope it has been great and enjoyable and full of all the special things you want.
  4. I do not think universities are overrated or will be going away but think that they need to adapt more from the current focus of theoretical and research related activities into a blend of theory and practical with research as a secondary focus. Knowing (as I work in admin at a university) that research is really what drives and in some cases funds university activities and allows for students that may be a hard change but in the long run would have more benefit for students. Most employers now want people who are ready and able to work in their fields when hired and only want to train in the how our company does things not the full thing as was the case when I graduated when it was understood that the first 1-4 months would really be training on how to do the job period, with the how our company does it a secondary part of that. Now I find college more beneficial as a starting point as it provides the practical primarily with a bit of theoretical and allows people to be work ready to a greater degree. In many cases many colleges are twinned with a university so if after you get the college diploma you can transfer to the university with a strong advanced standing to continue the education if desired and can be working at the same time.
  5. Have not seen her in a while but know she goes by Jessica Curves here now.
  6. The problem as I see it for expats in determining if they can vote is tied to if they still maintain property in Canada. To vote you have to have a defined riding that you are a resident of as you are voting for a representative of that area. If as an expat you do not meet the requirements to have a valid riding status you should not be allowed to vote no Canadian residence/riding status. For this as far as long as you are properly maintain a valid Canadian address and addressing the required taxes related to that location you should be allowed to vote, even if primarily living away from Canada for more than 5 years. This situation is different to US expats and the presidential elections as for that the people are voting country wide for the president (who is really the US equivalent to our Governor General) IN those cases all expats get to vote. But expats only get to vote in the state representatives or municipal if they meet the US defined residency requirements.
  7. If you happen to be in a riding that has an independent candidate running and you are not interested in voting for any of the 4 main (5 in Quebec) parties and do not want to spoil the ballot or not vote voting for them is the best. If you are able to get enough support for them and there are enough elected, currently there are 8, and a close to majority minority govt they are actually quite powerful as swing votes and generally will represent their riding wishes far better than party MP's
  8. Something to keep in mind before assuming that the OP wants to keep things private is the SP wishes as well. There are some who, even if they have had public reco's in the past, no longer want that so any passing of info needs to be in private to keep with their wishes.
  9. Happy Birthday Emily. I hope you have a wonderful and fun filled day.
  10. Cleaning the snow of the car in the morning and fund the hood totally caved in. Now have to replace it as it is so caved in it can not be popped out. Nice $1500 bill just before trying to travel.
  11. This has happened to me on the other side though as I was calling and two numbers would show up. The cause was a crossed line situation with Bell in which when I would call another persons line also was calling and would be able to hear all conversations. Also if either of us was called both phones would ring and we would have an unwanted party line going.
  12. Just had the call from dad that has been expected for a bit that Mom passed away after her quite long fight with liver cancer. It is sad but a relief at the same time as we know how bad she was suffering recently. She did make it almost to year 5 after the initial 3-6 month expectation when diagnosed and had a large number of happy trips to places she really wanted to go as well and let us that went along have good memories too.
  13. Happy birthday Nat. I hope it keeps going well and you enjoy your trip.
