Do you remember your first exposure to erotica? Someone's movie collection? Magazines?

 

I recall being in my early teens and stumbling across a relative's stash of playboys. Needless to say it caught my attention. Those days of different lingerie styles, body types, hairstyles. Not saying those days need to come back, just thinking back. Your thoughts.

I remember my first glimpse of erotica very very fondly. I was about 10 years old and was

in my basement fixing my bike. As I looked up into the unfinished ceiling

I noticed a rolled up magazine. The light from the bare light bulb illuminated it just

enough to expose what appeared to be an arm or a leg. Once I found something to

stand on, I removed my treasure from its dusty hiding place. It was a wrinkled, but beautiful Playboy mag.

 

I still remember looking at the airbrushed girls with their big breats

and dark pubic hair. It was amazing.

 

I visited that area of the basement many many times after that to look at those girls.

But sadly it disappeared eventually. I guess my dad must of noticed it was getting kinda tattered. Lol

 

That was back in the mid seventies. Now, when I happen to be in an

Unfinished area of a house, I catch myself looking up....looking for

another rolled up, airbrushed treasure. :)

When I was growing up, my parents' basement was filled with boxes and boxes of books that belonged to my much older brother. He had already graduated from university, and had moved out of the house and into the outside, work-a-day world. Much of my education, and my tastes in many areas, was gained from reading my brother's books. Some I could read in front of my parents; some were best read more covertly.

 

My brother owned a number of erotic novels, a couple of which certainly grabbed my full attention. I don't remember now what they all were (I wish I did), but two that stand out in my mind are Pauline Reage's "Story of O" and Terry Southern's "Candy". My brother also owned a large collection of fine art books, including a luxurious edition of Descharnes' "Auguste Rodin" with hand-tipped plates. I found the marble sculptures of female nudes and amorous couples, reproduced in ultra-high-quality glossy photos, achingly erotic.

My first time ever seeing anything was when I was about 8 years old, I was over at my best friends house and she said to me "you'll never guess what my dad keeps in the bathroom". So we went and looked together, and he had a huge collection of penthouse and other magazines. I remember looking at the pictures briefly and then headed straight to the erotic stories! I still remember some of the stories to this day. I remember thinking to myself, this is not what my mom told me about "adult life". This was way more erotic, and fun to think about. My first real brush with erotica was in the late 60's. I would babysit for an aunt and uncle and one night I went downstairs to crab a coke and found a room with these neat stacks of magazines. There was more than 100 and it was Playboy. They dated back to the mid-50's until present day. I took a half doz upstairs and after the kids were in bed I started thumbing through them. Each time I baby sat I had the same routine, after the kids were in bed I'd grab a half a dozen and would go through them. It was really neat to see how the centre folds changed over the years, body shape, age, stylle and nudity which at the begining was pretty tame.

 

I started to notice there really weren't many pictures but a whole lot of articles and interviews. These were heady times, viet nam, civil rights, the women's movement, Kent State and on and on. The monthly interviews were eargerly anticipated and featured the key politcial and enterntainment figures and writers of the day and certainly left of centre. This was pre internet and mags like Playboy, Rolling Stone and Interview were very influential and because of Playboy I sought them out.

 

My Dad bought me a subscription when I was 18 and renewed it for me every year until he passed at 84 almost 40 years of subscriptions.

 

So thanks Dad and thanks Hef.......you were a big part of who I am today.
