I've been found out. Someone complained and I'm out on my ass. lol It's okay though, I'm okay. A little ashamed (apparently there's 2 nuns who live above me) and a lot embarrassed (don't think the landlord was a fan of prostitution at all). Anyway, what can I tell you? Everything happens for a reason, so I won't get too weepy about it. I miss my dogs like crazy anyway and now have a new appreciation for the awesomeness of Winnipeg! :)

There might not be much of a practical upside to disputing this before a Tenancies Board, given the technically criminal nature of the activity involved. Any benefits of delaying eviction would have to be weighed against the potential downside of the facts that would be revealed or discussed in the hearing.

 

Section 210 of the Canadian Criminal Code (The Bawdy-House Law), provides that a landlord who "knowingly permits the place or any part thereof to be let or used for the purposes of a common bawdy-house" can be fined $5,000 and go to jail for 6 months if convicted.

 

Which doesn't make anything very pleasant for anyone in these situations. Just another nasty effect of the current legal regime.
