SP on Facebook - What to do

Well here is an odd on I need some advice on - I was speaking via emails to a SP in a city I was going to be spending a couple weeks in for work. I arrived in the city last night and did the usual check in on facebook for some dining the first night.

 

This AM I am online and a very familiar looking face, but not to familiar name, shows up in my "you may know section". Now I am not sure if this is because I happened to have the same last name as the lady in questions FB profile, or perhaps the check in the night before matched some magical facebook data mining list. But the photo used as a profile pic is the same one sent to me in the emails.

 

I'm thinking that a meeting should not happen under these cases - it's like a wall has been broken down now and just seems... odd.

She might have popped up because you had searched for something like escort ottawa or something on google. Facebook grabs these keywords and then makes those mysterious, sometimes creepy links. I remember one time I typed in my status "Can anyone recommend a good book to read?" and when I hit "post," all the ads beside my post were about books. I hadn't even hit enter yet when the program made the link!

 

Rest assured that the girl herself did not make the link. We escorts are even more against those connections than the clients are.

I do all my hobby browses / searches in "incognito mode" so I would be a little concerned if the search history leaked over! :)

A good idea may be to mention it to the lady in question. I'm sure she would like to know that not only are you now aware, but also that her presence is being connected on FB. This is why I do NOT trust FB at all. There are too many secret programs and links that do WAY more than anyone thinks they do.

 

It may change your session with her or it may not but she should be able to have input into that decision and be made aware.

It likely has to do with the email address' of both of you. FB tracks these.

If you were using the same browser (+profile), then it's quite likely that you have a cookie leak. Install a copy of firefox, start the profile manager and create a new profile. Give the profile a name like "client14test efforts", or something... which is totally believable if you actually do web devel work.. You can also install a fresh copy of firefox on a USB key.

(Chrome Incognito mode shares too much of your regular profile data into the incognito mode; it just doesn't share stuff back)

 

It could also be that the FB person in question took the photo from the SP.

Or the SP is grabbing pictures from FB. Or it's the same person.

I get lots of notifications of 'you may know', befores, and I have never known any of them. I also got a bunch of emails from FB asking me if I know some folks, which is nice of them, but that email account is not linked to any facebook account.

A couple of times I have noticed newbie SPs using their real email accounts. With their real name. A surprising number of SPs have sent out bulk email spam and in the header you can see the names of everyone else that it is addressed to.

Facebook digs around for all this stuff, it is always data mining.

 

Note:I always tell the ladies using a real account right away!

Well after looking at thing on my end - confirming private mode, different browser and email used etc. I reach out to the sp my with concerns.

 

As I said it happens her public Facebook profile has the same last name as mine and she had recently visited the resturant in question. She's not new at this so of course had different emails etc. to protect her info.

 

We agreed to chalk this up to on of those things that happens and declined to meet for a date because of this.

 

As mush as I worry that chromes private mode was at fault here I honestly don't think his is the case.

Well, I just scrapped FB. I just can't stand all the bullshit on there and things like this annoy me no end. I think FB has gotten totally out of hand with crap like this. You have no real privacy regardless of your settings because they monitor everything once your email is tied to them. You can put up all the firewalls and what- not and they will be okay for awhile, then, boom, FB finds a way around them and you are at it again. At least that's my experience with them. I'm not super tech savvy though and don't know how to do a lot of the advanced protection stuff either so maybe others have better luck.

Minor thread hijack... a lot of folks feel the same. There's a new social network called Ello which is being launched with no ads and they don't track you... still in beta for now, so they're limiting sign-ups, but it could catch on if they get critical mass.
