I know! The amount of guys who ask why I changed my advertising methods and are shocked when I explain astounds me!

I found this link, it's a bit old as it's not updated with the recent news but I found it very helpful in helping to "dumb down" the facts.

Hope it helps at least one person understand better what changes to anticipate.

Comments appearing on other erb's;

I thought we have until the end of December before bill-C36 takes effect right? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

You're wrong...and everyone who says there is a 30 day window is wrong.

Everything i've seen says C36 has to go a 30 day period after Royal Assent, it is part of the legal process, meaning Dec 6 you might see more action against street workers clients. But i doubt LE will make major changes any time soon, if ever.

this is section 49 of the act:

49. The provisions of this Act, other than sections 46 to 48, come into force 30 days after the day on which this Act receives royal assent.

since it has received royal assent, it will be enforceable as of Dec 6.

For clients, it will be a crime to obtain, or to communicate to obtain, sex for consideration (money).

If we assume that the law won't be actively enforced until December 6th - Peel Region, Halton Region, York Region, and Durham Region cops know all the usual hotels which people frequent. Nothing prevents them from doing intel and logging licence plate numbers.

After December 6th, if you go back to a place where you went before, and the police match your plate against the log - well, now they have established that you have a pattern of going to a place where certain activities are known to occur. Certain activities which are now prohibited. In my mind, it gives them reasonable and probable grounds to investigate further and give you a hard time.

The only edge that guys may have is that if your phone is password protected, and the cop asks to go through your phone, you can tell the cop to go get a warrant. Granted, in my mind, that opens the door for yourself to get arrested for Obstruction. Maybe a lawyer or paralegal could chime in with an opinion?

That's nothing next to the impact on the hotel business and condo business...

Let's think of it a bit...

Who would contact an SP, from an ad or other, that he does know for a service ? Could be an operation setup to catch the John looking for some sex...There will be less demand therefore the supply will go down...some girls will just give up and stop doing it...

Now I would love to know what percentage of rooms, on any given day are used by SPs, from the Sheraton downtown Toronto to a crappy Studio 6 in Mississauga ?

The same question applies to all the condo towers being built in the GTA ...

Now it will be funny if this bill leads to a recession in Canada.... by taking the condo business down, then the housing and so on .... LOL

The recent changes to the prostitution laws are simply to comply with the Supreme Court decision last year that essentially said our current laws are unconstitutional. Rather than make prostitution legal, Harper reworded the criminal code to comply with the SCC decision and still maintain prostitution as illegal. The only real way you can get arrested is in a sting operation with an undercover female cop. Other than that, if you're questioned by the police you tell them you know nothing about prostitution taking place. If they ask for your cell phone, you tell them to get a warrant and to fuck off.

Mays you concerned about future toftt moto, wouldn't want to be stung by LE

Pivot legal has some great information on this bill/law. I understand your fear but this stuff is painfully easy to navigate. There will be a learning curve, not only for clients, but providers as well but let's be honest - we are a pretty smart bunch of people here.

You will see advertising change drastically, it has to. You should be careful who you see (known, trusted, reviewed providers) but you should be doing that anyway. If you're onr of those people that send lewd texts, stop.

I'm in ottawa and logging license plates seems silly to me. Most downtown hotels double as government parking so the same plates are there all the time. I don't think that LE is going to have the resources to go insane on this I expect a couple of big busts (or attempts..we've seen their success rate) and that's it. This will cause problems to spas, agencies and street level works. I feel awful for them but I am not involved in those categories so I cannot speak for their strategies. I'm sure they have them though

Law enforcement is not on a moral crusade here like the Conservative government is. If they're told to enforce something they will do it because it's their job. It is also based on time, budget and resources.

Many people think that once this bill is official law that LE will just be waiting to arrest people. This bill is so contradictory and evasive that I feel bad for police officers who are just doing their job.

People need to use common sense here. Don't do anything that you are not sure of, see reputable providers, be discrete and there won't be a problem.

The world is not going to end. Hobbyists are going to have to take more time researching a prospective SP they want to meet instead of calling up an ad on BP out of the blue and going to meet them within the hour.

I hate to say it but clients have had it good for so long without interference from LE and many have become complacent due to non-industry classified ads which have brought in a lot of amateurs to the business who think they have a cell phone and hotel room that they are now a professional escort, a lot more bait and switch, explicit advertising, menus, quick in and out service, etc.

It is all going to change and imo, there may be more positive change as a result.

Things have changed but let's not let panic take over... take the necessary precautions and just book time with your favorite lady and all will be fine.

Just my Opinion

Emailed a long time and highly regarded provider who I've known for many years and asked for her thoughts on Bill C-36. Got back a what's that message. I provided a bunch of links and suggested it would be good to become informed quickly. (I also suggested that they could be a bunch come out the wood work over the next 30 days as some scramble seeking a safe haven). It surprised me a bit but then after thinking about it, it really didn't as the numbers of uniformed players out there is huge and most probably the majority by a long shot. That's where the game is going to get most interesting when the uniformed on both sides walk smack into C-36.

While all the boards have had extensive discussions about C-36 with many many opinions the reality they still represent a small percentage of overall industry participants. And the stick to reputable providers idea well obviously a good thought, for folks who aren't on the boards how would they even know who is a reputable provider is?

Interesting times indeed.

Yes indeed! I am trying to help out my local patrons and ladies by, once meeting and spending time with ladies I have posted a "friend list" to let other know they are safe to book with.

It is a shame to say the least that many new ladies will fall prey to less desirable clients. And Gent's who could be extorted or put into danger by scams or worse:(

I advertise in the newspaper from time to time and many clients do not have a clue what's going on or told me they've heard something about it yet have no extensive knowledge as to what's currently going on.

I've told them that they should stick to ladies they know and if they do venture out, do not ask explicit questions on the phone and that they're paying for time and companionship.

I suppose the Ottawa Sun will discontinue the escort ad section and there is another market gone. I have a lot of great long time regular clients from there who were the "old school" type and it's really too bad that I will not be meeting any more of them from that advertising medium. :(

I guess not many of you are aware of C-13, which Harper snuck through the day after the Ottawa shootings. Now, I am by no means saying that the government and LE have the time to waste using C-13 in conjunction with C-36 to bust the average John. That's a highly improbable scenario.

But our online privacy is certainly not what it used to be. My advice is to delete any and all e-mails and text messages of your correspondence with ladies after you have met. Just a precaution - and also a good idea if you have a wife!
