  1. A second line was actually part of the original cell phone standards NAM1/NAM2 (designed in) but was only offered for a short time and has been discontinued everywhere by all the carriers. Even if you buy a dual SIM phone, with the ones I've seen they don't both get to be active at the same time (you get to switch back and forth) but only one is in use at a time, so no joy there. So the only solution is an app that does it a different way, etc. and then comes the problem of responding to text messages which are going to appear to come from the number in the SIM card (because they did). Many ladies I know are packing two phones, except the ones that don't usually carry there "personal life" phone all the time.
  2. MS. Samantha offers this service :)
  3. It actually works the other way around also. I was watching a movie in Canada (before leaving for República Dominicana) and then unable to find it using NetFlix US version but fortunately the aforementioned VPN service lets you "adjust" or change the country in which the VPN tunnel ultimately terminates. There are also easier and cheaper ways, a friend of mine was able to get the US content on his PS3 (or some such gaming console) just by changing his DNS settings (Google is your friend here). That should work for a PC as well. I think they make it so easy to bypass the content restrictions as they know everybody does it and very few would subscribe to the really stripped down Canadian version if they couldn't. That said I did find one movie available in Canada and not available in the US but the VPN connection is definitely the preferred method as it even lets me watch NetFlix US on my Android smartphone, it also makes email and all Wifi or data related traffic much more secure.
  4. Yes and it is a very common phenomenon. Not that "particular" use of their earnings (I found that a little over the top also) but I've often observed the total lack of regard for the value of money or any sense of planning for tomorrow or even a raining day... something I don't really understand, at least not yet. The ladies of República Dominicana, while they may work at rates that are shockingly low compared to Canada, they are still very high income earners compared to most other people here. Just the same, they take "live for today with no worries about tomorrow" way too far - often with predictable consequences that they seem totally oblivious to. They often won't work at all unless they "must", passing up opportunities and then let their financial situation get so desperate that they are then desperate and will do the same work they could have done a week ago for half the rate now as the rent is due. When they do have income it is spent on clothes they don't really need, treating their friends, anything and everything that amounts to having little to show for it. I've tried to decode this behavior and understand it, even through detailed conversations with them but it just seems cultural that they have no concept of the future (beyond their immediate needs today). It makes me sad because I know if they had the business sense of the ladies in Canada they could be quite affluent but even though they earn more income than most Dominicans they are always poor (well perhaps not "today" but by tomorrow they will be). Odd but true.
  5. Yes, I imagine that is the case. It is a well known fact (at least right now) that there is really no difference between a "Canadian" and an "American" NetFlix subscription other than where you access it from. So if you fly, drive or walk to the US then your "Canadian" NetFlix subscription magically changes and you have access to all the US content. Of course if you are not up to traveling to the US just to watch NetFlix then you can do so "virtually" by using a service like Strong VPN. Such a service offers many other advantages as well (I'd never use a public Wifi hotspot without it, etc.) I am currently in República Dominicana on an open Wifi network but all my traffic is encrypted and CERB would think I am in New York (based on my IP address).
  6. Geez RG, you left out your most beautiful and totally awesome virtual wife :) Now there is one lady you gotta meet (if you haven't already and it was just a simple or intentional oversight).
  7. I'm highly unlikely to leave a voice mail with one notable exception. I know one lady that updates her greeting at the start of every appointment or any time she won't be able to answer her phone and does it religiously. She tells you it is her, the day of the week and current date and time (so you know the updated greeting is really current), exactly when she expects to be able to check her voice mail again and will be returning calls and therefore when you should expect her to be returning your call. If these times meet with my requirements I will leave a message because I know if she said she would be checking her voice again at 4:30 pm my phone will ring about 4:35, give or take a minute :)
  8. Why type? Reminds me of the Star Trek movie where Scottie says "Keyboard?!!?? How quaint!" I just use Google voice actions for sending a text or "typing" an email :) http://googlemobile.blogspot.ca/2010/08/just-speak-it-introducing-voice-actions.html It's a real time saver and it really does work!
  9. When you follow that link it doesn't list the Z10 as a "supported" Blackberry. Of course many of the Z10 apps are just Android versions with a Java wrapper around them. Can anyone confirm that Tapatalk is available for the Z10 specifically? Using CERB (or any vBulletin based message board) on a smart phone without tapatalk is painful. Tapatalk is great!
  10. I can understand your skepticism but those that really know me would set you straight :) In fact my last encounter with a third world lady was on New Years eve (my associates didn't want me ringing in the new year alone) and the lady not yet understanding the platonic or social only nature of our 12 hour appointment immediately disrobed upon arrival in my resort suite without any encouragement. I come by my handle of "BackRubMan" quite validly due to formal training in massage therapy so the remainder of some massage oil that was imported by a visiting (very wonderful) CERB lady from Canada (who had since returned to Canada) was put to good use. Of course the lady was most impressed as she had never received a massage before :)
  11. I don't think that constitutes a viable threat any longer. Law enforcement has really no interest as any applicable laws that would make what the lady is doing illegal have twice been declared a charter violation and they have no need to make it three times, added to this where is the evidence? While the blackmailer could attest to one visit that is all, the ladies location has to be used for that purpose more than once to be 'common'. The hotel appreciates the lady's business, she is their paying guest. So I don't think anyone would be interested in hearing what the 'rat' had to say :)
  12. If you send an email to [email protected] (where the 10 digit cell phone number is a Telus customer) the contents of the email are sent as a text message from 999 999 9999 :)
  13. It doesn't get any better than Katherine who is visiting Winnipeg shortly (starting Feb 2 8 ) and does have formal training in massage therapy. Winnipeg is lucky to have her visit.
  14. Your warning is well founded (particularly with Internet prescriptions, etc.) but the pharmacies in República Dominicana are reputable or the ladies would gang up and put a beating on them :) While I don't agree with what they do and believe these drugs should be prescribed by a Doctor they do sell the real deal in the proper packaging directly from the original manufacturer as well as lower priced but properly and correctly manufactured generic versions which are probably a patent infringement but come from a government monitored and quality controlled manufacturing facility in Santo Domingo. While I don't yet require these medications myself (and hope I never do), my friends and associates who do (and have obtained a prescription from their Doctor in North America) report that they are equivalent to the much higher priced versions at a fraction of the cost. Anyone going on vacation there and wanted to bring such a product back to Canada should take the precaution of having a Doctor write a prescription for them even though they don't need it to buy it, arriving back in Canada, CBSA might take issue with importing a controlled substance without a prescription.
  15. I've been working on this for months also but can't seem to get anywhere with them :) Actually a few years ago I discovered this site: http://www.419eater.com/html/letters.htm and going though the letters archive provided me with hours of entertainment at the time.
  16. I find OpenDNS to be of great value as it can be setup at your broadband or wireless router and can be configured to block many sites that would contain pop-ups or malware. While it doesn't offer complete protection it does what it does for every computer on your home or business network at the network level without having to worry about individual computers. Especially useful if you have children or anyone else that might not be security savvy in your household as it allows you to determine what kind of content they can access without the need to adjust individual computers directly.
  17. Cool. Don't forget you get a lot more than just email with no banner ads for that $5 (and of course the ability to use your own domain name with it). Any one of the "other" features is probably worth the $5/month by itself (at least to me), like Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides (to name just a few, there are many more) and of course I don't know of any one else offering the industrial strength two-factor authentication for the same price point. With so many email accounts getting hacked into, it's worth it for the extra security alone. Oddly you get responsive, live, toll free technical support also and flawless integration with every smartphone (full sync of inbox, contacts and calendar with BB, Android and iPhone). 5 million businesses that have switched to Google Apps can't be wrong. For someone involved in this industry, $5 isn't much to pay for secure email.
  18. Obviously "smoke" was involved but there is no evidence and the charges dropped. So the family could argue that Sun Wing was diverting due to smoke (which it can't be proven they were responsible for). As reprehensible as abusive language to a member of the flight crew and failing to obey a lawful order to return to your seat is, it is hard to imagine that these two remaining incidents would pose enough of a continuing risk to safety to justify diverting. Unless their lawyer got his credentials out of a bubblegum machine, Sun Wing is likely to lose which would make other flight crews more hesitant to divert and land as soon as possible when perhaps they should and Sun Wing would probably be spending another $50k to bring the law suit. I'm guessing we will see this fade away unless there is a lot more to it.
  19. One pleaded guilty to behaving in a disorderly manner by using abusive and offensive language on the flight. Another pleaded guilty to disobeying a lawful order by a flight attendant (failure to return to their seat when ordered to do so) and both have been fined. A third charge was dismissed, criminal case closed. While I agree this type of behavior cannot be tolerated (and wasn't) the onus with a law suit to recover costs will be on Sun Wing to prove that it was both "prudent and necessary" to divert the aircraft in that the offending passengers continued to pose a further risk to the safety or security of the other passengers as opposed to continuing on and allowing law enforcement at the final destination to deal with them. Depending on the exact circumstances this could be a hard case for Sun Wing to win. I'd be surprised to see the actual law suit be filed. I have assisted a flight attendant in the past with restraining and controlling unruly (drunk) passengers but once that was accomplished we simply continued on to the planned destination where they were immediately arrested.
  20. I think they (US) do allow lighters again now (maximum one). They didn't take mine in Newark recently and I placed it in the bin to be x rayed in plain view so they are "half" over the Richard Reid, shoe bomber incident and I remember reading the sign waiting in line at security that one was allowed. I'm not liking the shoe thing, you are walking shoe-less over the same floor as everyone else -- seems a great way to spread papillomavirus (which causes Plantar warts). British Airways used to pass out complementary packs of cigarettes (for you to smoke on board) on the Concord. Oh how times have changed (in North America), everyone still smokes everywhere in much of the third world much like Canada 25 years ago.
  21. Well I remember the days when it was normal to allow smoking on an aircraft and there was never a case of aircraft fire caused by smoking :) In fact some foreign airlines do still allow it :) If there was any smoking that occurred in the wash room, I'd think it a pretty safe bet that the butts would simply have been flushed :) I imagine if I was on this flight I wouldn't have been amused but a chance to break up a 4 hour flight (into two, two hour flights) and spend the night at a hotel in Bermuda wouldn't have killed me. While I used to travel a lot and be on some really long flights, these days after about 2 hours in an airplane seat I'm really not liking it at all. Guess I'm getting old.
  22. My understanding is that smoking was not the real issue and that was dropped (no evidence). But failing to comply with direct and lawful orders from a flight attendant is a serious matter. Happened on a flight I was on recently but fortunately we hadn't left the ground (but as close as we cold come without an aborted take-off - at the piano bars at the end of the run way about to throttle up) so we returned to the gate and two passengers left the aircraft. Of course then the trouble was unaccompanied luggage doesn't fly so we were delayed another hour while the baggage handlers had to remove all the luggage, find theirs and then put the rest back on board and then de-ice for a second time before departure by that point.
  23. You could put it that way. Google Apps for Business has been ISO 27001 certified. Even the spooks can use it (with two factor authentication, I imagine). They will give you a 1 month free trial and your own "test" address so you can simply forward your email to it without adjusting the MX (Mail eXchanger) records in the DNS for your domain. Aside from email (with really great spam filtering) and seemingly unlimited storage with the power of Google search against your email, there is just way so much more to it than email. While Google Docs isn't Microsoft Office, most people don't use 1/10 the features in office and the word processor, spreadsheet, presentation and drawing tools are not at all bad when you consider they can be used from anywhere and all you need is a web browser.
  24. I wish other people would recognize the serious and intense security short comings of POP3 email. Access your email just once (maybe outlook or something similar polls for new mail in the background) just once using a WiFi hot spot and the jig is up. Yes, Google is as good as it gets at this. It's different when you pay for Google Apps for Business... you even get to replace Google's logo with your own, all the ads go away and they stop harvesting your interests or reading your email. I do understand your concerns but 4 million businesses can't be wrong? http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/customers/ including many state and municipal governments. You get a super slick web interface that is always SSL, a five nines 99.999% uptime guarantee, two-factor authentication (no more key stroke loggers stealing your password), 25GB of storage, sub-second search though all of it (enough to hold a life time of email) and countless other features. To me it is worth far more than the $50/year it costs. And you get a lot more than just great email. Google Docs, Google drive, the best integration with smart phones I have ever seen with automatic calendar and contacts sync. Your concerns about "free" Gmail are warranted but when you pay they must respect the terms of the contract :)
  25. I don't foresee it affecting prices at all. Just affecting change when you are paying in cash and there is less and less of that all the time anyways.
