Recommended Posts

A few names of actual places that tickled my funnybone:

Phuket (Thailand)

U.S.

Alabama: Bobo, Intercourse

Alaska: Eek

Arizona: Boneyard, Nothing, Why

Arkansas: Beaver, Hooker, Toad Suck, Turkey Scratch

California: Cabbage Patch, Dogtown, You Bet

Colorado: Climax, Hygiene, No Name

Florida: Howey-in-the-Hills, Niceville (ick)

Georgia: Climax (seems to be popular), Cumming

Illinois: Kickapoo, Roachtown (never did like Illinois)

Indiana: Ballstown, French Lick

Kentucky: Beaver Lick, Lick Fork, Paint Lick, Spring Lick (seems to be a pretty oral type of state).

Here in Nova Scotia, we've got Shag Harbour on our south shore - home to the annual UFO Festival every August.

(The community is named after a seabird - the shag, alias the cormorant.)

Lol, back when I was in school, there was a kid in our class named Maxwell House - I always thought it was borderline child abuse to give your kid such an easy name to make fun of!

Of course, it's better than naming your kid Adolf Hitler:

Not really all about place names - I just started with that theme.

If anyone has any names they regret or have parents they would like to have revenge upon....please share.

A couple from Newfoundland that seem board appropriate:

Come By Chance, Conception Bay and Dildo.

Must add Spread Eagle to the list of Newfoundland interesting places....

One of the not so distant Lieutenant-Governors of NL is called Maxwell House.

Another NL community: Gayside, changed its name to Baytona in the 70's; Little Heart's Delight and mustn't forget Dildo Run - nowhere near the other Dildo.

We have a Dr. Nurse, a Nurse Head and not to forget the conversation-stopping Oral Head.

Yes, my son, we have them all 'ere!

Here's one - A few years ago, I was looking through the Yellow Pages in my area, and happened to come across a gent's name that happened to be -

Homer Simpson!!! I kid you not!! I swear it's 100% true. Omg, I can't believe he actually had it listed; can you imagine the prank phone calls he must have gotten, or even the ordeal in trying to order a cab or a pizza?!?! LMFAO!!!

Any discussion about unfortunate names will eventually get around to Fonda Dicks. She was a star high school girls basketball player from Moravia, Iowa, in the early '70s. She and I attended the same university at the same time.

So facts: There is/was a Fonda Dicks. There is a person so named on LinkedIn.

She married Randy Peters.

Read about her, Nick Dicks and Muffy Cox here: Road Tips: Fonda Dicks

You have to go through Blue Balls to get to Intercourse, PA, too. ;)

There's also Chicken, Alaska. They wanted to name the town Ptarmigan after the little birds that kept them going up there the first while, but thought people would make fun of their town ... Chicken is much better.

I used to work at the airport in Toronto and had to deal with a number of clients from the far east. While you get a lot of "Chans" and "Zhengs" there are some real names that never ever considered the English language equivalent.

Young guy from Hong Kong named Si Mei Wang (See my wang)

Older lady from Hong Kong named Suk Mei Kok (do I really need to explain???)

Pakistani kid with the name Anus Bhagg

Thai guy with the name Mr. Kittiporn (just like it sounds)

Lots of Vietnamese people named Phuoc U

Older Chinese gent with the name Kok King

but the best??? A guy from Macao named Ho Li Cao.
