Do you live to eat or eat to live?

If you eat to live what motivates you to stay on a healthy path?Waht are your go to foods?

If you live to eat, why and what is your weakness?

I believe I do both, but more of live to eat. I'm still a sugar addict, had half a dozen powdered donuts for breakfast, small ones! On my gym days I have a healthy shake for breakfast and a light lunch with a healthy dinner, but my late night snacking, chips, popcorn, ice-cream is still a problem:( I mean junk food feels good and I love feeling good:)

I thought I was from the I eat to live team and perhaps I used to be but a few years ago I became a foodie so I guess I now live to eat. I try to plan my meals ahead and even think which dessert would go with that because yes, I have a sweet tooth and have dessert most nights.

 

Food Network is my favorite channel so yes I totally live for the food, sadly living alone sometimes I feel lazy and don't cook as much as I would like but when I do I even get in a better mood :)

I know! The food network is like porn now, lol, love watching it:) On another channel there is another show called eat street that is a lot of fun, it usually follows stories about popular food trucks in different cities, usually American and the food always looks soooo good! On a day in day out basis I eat to live... very often that is bad choices in large helping.... for those who gave met me they have seen my gut so that will come as no surprise.

 

No that said.... i also love great meals in good restaurants especially when the company is good and the conversation engaging.

I can cook the basics and I do know my way around a kitchen.

 

I think I do pretty good most of the time when it comes to eating healthy. Although I do have a problem with portion sizes when it comes to veggies. I like bigger healthier portions for them.

 

I even use "Mrs Dash" rather than salt and pepper.

 

About 3 or 4 times a year, I go on a junk food binge for a weekend. A whole large pizza, fried zucchini and a dozen BBQ wings - all in one sitting. And a six-pack of root beer to wash it all down.

 

I rarely if ever drink alcoholic beverages. The old body just does not tolerate it like it did in my younger years.

 

I think the secret is keeping an eye on how much processed meat and cheese we consume. As well as, sugar and artificial sweeteners. Sugar comes in may forms and many of them people are not even aware of. The food conglomerates did that for a reason. They know the addictive properties of sugar and sweeteners have on people. Without that they would not make as much money. Did you know that sugar is what keeps the bad bacteria in our stomachs out numbering the good bacteria. That leads to a whole lot of other problems in our health.

 

Stop Feeding Bad Bacteria!

I live to eat! I've lately been trying to eat to live but it's soooo hard! My biggest weakness is sweets, I gained 13 lbs over the holidays mostly because I ate nothing but cookies, chocolate and my mom's homemade pie! I've managed to lose the 13 lbs plus an additional 15 lbs but I'm finding it really hard to satisfy my sweet tooth and still stay on track. Any suggestions?

I used to live to eat in my late 20s and 30s. About three years ago I cleaned up my eating a bit and exercised more. Last year I met with a dietician and he laid out a meal plan that I've been following and the results have been amazing. Eating smaller meals 4-6 times a day has worked wonders and I still indulge on occasion. I was surprised at how much snacking I was doing which became evident when I started following a meal plan. It isn't easy but I feel and look much better than I did.

I live to eat but mainly live to cook. There is nothing more gratifying than trying out a new creation and seeing it disappear from the plates of your guests!

The answer to sugar cravings for me is a glass of red wine a day. However I need to keep that in check as one can lead to two, then we know how that story can go. :biggrin:

Can I say both??

 

I work out like a fiend, and eat well most of the time so that I can stay thin, fit and when the mood hits, I can down a container of ice cream, or a bunch of beer, or whatever I feel like, whenever I feel like.

 

I'm Italian, so food is love and, man, do I love food!!!

 

I guess, in this context, I'm Bi!!! (bi-food-ual)

I used to live to eat...since I've competed in fitness i eat to live...

 

Beleive or not I have a very strong sweet tooth also...It took all my will power to stay away from....Nutella, caramel (dolce leche) and anything sweet i could get my hands on while i was preparing for a competition...it was a constant battle.

 

There are alternative but you have to set your mind to it...eating Walden farm product (no calories product that taste sweet) can compensate but its just not as satisfying as a scoop of Nutella lol...

 

For me it was a challenge...oh my what a challenge it was...I still eat very healthy and I stay away from Junk/fast food...

 

After a few days without sugar...your body doesnt crave it as much...i think the best way is an hour at a time...then days lol

My friend warned me about nutella so I haven't tried it, apparently it's divine:) As far as after 3 days without sugar, They all say that you'll stop craving it but it doesn't work for me. Could I be so pickled in it that I need more time? The longest I've gone was a week but then when I started again because I couldn't resist the urge I just started eating even more:( I think my sugar battle is hopeless and genetic. On my dads side everyone eats candy and more candy, cake and pie, cookies and fudge, ice-cream and so on and so on. Maybe I'm doomed to a sugar hell:(

Both actually. I enjoy having a healthy meal, but I also eat junk food as well. I honestly want to cut back on the junk food and focus on eating healthy, but those chocolate bars and chips are too hard to resist :(

Donairs with pepperoni and cheese and lots of donair sauce.

I'm doing both as well. Since the New Year, I've been getting to the gym 5 nights a week, and Monday to Friday I eat extremely healthy....but Saturday tends to be pizza, and Sunday is something ordered in.

I eat to live. I eat exactly what I think I need to create the body I have and desire.

My diet consists of high protein and low starchy carbs mixed with the proper amount of carbs at the right time of day. I eat plenty of starchy carbs before noon to sustain any athlete, afternoon its fibrous carbs only. This really works for me. That is 90 percent of the time, sometimes I don't do that or sometimes I drink to much red wine. :biggrin:

 

At the end of the day whatever ( healthy ) plan you have will work if you stick to it long term. Everyone has different goals or ideas of what they desire.

 

As long as your doctor is not complaining and you look and feel the way you like its all good, it's just a matter of how you like to deal with yourself .

I had an accident several years ago and really balloned up by being inactive and lying around feeling sorry for myself.

One of my friends was so worried about me so she got me a gym style elliptical (from a gym that went bust) and big sliding mirror doors for the closet in my spare bedroom. Her and her husband installed them while I was on holidays.

When I came back she told me to get on that thing right now!

Nothing keeps you honest like working out naked in front of a mirror.

Yeah that is a big problem, my mom baked all the time and us kids all grew up sugar addicts.

I've lost a lot of weight mostly due to very careful dieting. I have to plan my eating and prepare all my meals in advance. "Manage Your Macros" is my mantra.

 

Craving sugar suggests you are missing something in your diet. Your body needs something and is letting you know. It's NOT asking forsugar, if it was sugar the cravings would go away once you got some sugar into you.

 

Go to bodybuilding dot com and look in the nutrition section for advice on how to manage your macros. Once you start filling up on stuff that is good for you the craving for sugar will diminish.

Well unfortunately I guess I really do eat quite poorly. I certainly eat to live and not the other way around.

 

The exception is if I have company at which time eating and cooking become fun again. And, I am at least a decent cook when I do it.

I'm both.

 

Some days, one; some days, the other.

 

Overall, though, I have pretty poor diet. There are days when I grab whatever I can whenever I can grab it. That doesn't lead to healthy choices. And, then I have the days when I don't eat anything until late at night just before bed.

 

Externally, I'm not showing too many signs of a poor diet, but I sure as hell can feel it sometimes.

I have food sensitivities, so I'm very mindful of how what I eat can have an effect on how I feel, both mentally and physically. I altered my diet a while back and mainly stick to protein, vegetables, and some fruit, and gluten-free carbs.

I think that's a lot of peoples issues, including mine. Many don't show how much or how badly they eat, so they don't change, but if you're feeling it that's when I think you need to worry. Obviously your body is trying to tell you something.

Today I started by eating half of a cheese cake, then a large bag of corn chips and 2 litres of sprite, just mins before writing this I ate a tub of cotton candy ice cream/walmart brand and I'm all stuffed up and sneezing, there must be something in it that I'm allergic to. But that is my last junk food binge, tired of treating my body like a garbage can! It's written so now I have to own it:)

Yep, I absolutely agree. While not screaming yet, my body is certainly talking to me.

 

I do have plans within the next few weeks, actually, to get back to my "way" of a few years, or so, ago. I ate pretty well then and still indulged within reason.

Cristy, I shared my weakness for sweets and being a foodie but didn't mention the healthy side of me which you also asked, every morning before eating anything and even before brushing my teeth (is how is supposed to be) I drink a glass of warm water with half lemon/lime they say it cleanses the body and is a great detox. I also TRY to buy food with no preservatives but is not that easy anymore.

I have to agree with those that say both... I love good food... I enjoy eating... I must say I am not huge on sweets.. and when it comes to junk food I am very selective.. meaning I am not a macdonalds type of person.. but god I love poutine, bacon.. and many other foods.. I try to eat healthy for the most part but i will not stop myself from eating or drinking something I like just because I dont want to gain weight or "be healthy" our body also needs fats and sugars to live.. I believe the key is not to abuse.. and well exercise.. not just to look good but to feel good ...
