I absolutely buy local whenever possible, and will always choose small businesses over the big guys given the choice. I fear I am an anomaly however as most of the people I know would sooner line up to shop at Costco, or buy on line than support their own local economy. They don't even understand why I am bothered by it. I'm the weirdo. All most see these days is the cheapest price at all costs regardless of where the money goes, or how many sweat shops it supports.

Yes. There are natural cycles of warming and cooling. These changes happen over thousands of years, not one generation. It is arguments like this that allow people to justify poisoning their own air and water, as well as that of their children. The economy is a man made creation and we can remake it if it means our continued existence. We first have to except that there is a problem before we can work toward fixing it. As far as running out of oil goes, we are already seeing a reversion to the even dirtier coal in many countries for power generation as it is a cheaper option. We can't count on simply running out of one poison to save us. There is always another poison if we don't have the will to stop using them.

I have to admit that I was a little shocked the first time I read that in an ad. I mean, if I saw that on a sign in a restaurant or any other type of service industry, I'd walk out. Hell, I'd go get my picket signs and call the media. This is different however. This is the most intimate of acts and everyone has the right to choose who the consent to engage in it with, based on whatever criteria they feel is important to them. As harsh as the words look when printed, they have the right to feel that way and that should be respected. It has made me wonder on occasion however if there is perhaps a group of local men who happen to be black who are treating the ladies poorly and causing them to take such a drastic blanket stance. Just a thought.
